President Derviş Eroğlu who flew to New York on Sunday embarks on his contacts in the Big Apple today.

As part of his contacts, the President will meet with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and the Secretary General of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation Ekmelettin İhsanoğlu.



President Derviş Eroğlu will come together with heads of states and governments of various countries who are in New York to attend the 66th regular session of the UN General Assembly.

He is also expected to meet with the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.



Before his departure, President Derviş Eroğlu said that unilateral initiatives of the Greek Cypriot administration to explore oil and natural gas in the Mediterranean would have negative effects on the ongoing Cyprus negotiations process.



The President said he will discuss the issue with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon during their meeting in New York....

Moreover, Eroglu said he had a telephone conversation with the European Commissioner for Enlargement Stefan Fule and Fule told him that he was aware of the TRNC's views and called on Christofias to suggest a delay in oil and natural gas explorations.



Noting that the EU could only make recommendations to its members, President Eroglu said the EU should take some decisions to motivate Greek Cypriots for an agreement. Meanwhile, Greek Cypriot Leader Dimitris Christofias will be flying to New York tomorrow.
