Apparently it's the bosses birthday today and that accounts for the staff not being able to cope, appalling food, reduced menu, incorrect drinks and that's before we had to wait 35 mins for a dessert!

But hey ho hope the boss had a splendid birthday and rejoices in the knowledge that these 6 locals will not be back to support him in the winter months.

The coffee and dessert which we went to Mardo next door for in the end, having given up all hope at SJ, was excellent

Amir was the only waiter trying to give any real service, well done to him and a poor show from everyone else who were too busy socialising instead of serving tonight!

Good night, God bless Spaghetti Junction.

My friend had a similar experience last week and it was no ones birthday. They waited 45 mins for their food only to be told that they didnt have the item ordered which was meat balls. So order something else then they were told They forgot the drinks and when the food arrived the lasagna was about enough to feed a baby. They left fed up and hungry so as you they wont go back.

Good grief, how hard can it be for restaurants to offer decent food and a decent service, no wonder they open and close within no time. It's not rocket science!

Drove past recently and it looked very busy, thought we would give it another try after being initially disappointed.......perhaps not now.

We live within walking distance of SJ and love Italian food but the feedback we get on this board and from friends is the place is a joke.

Wont be going.

We eat there on Friday lunchtime and after a question on our order all our meals arrived in reasonable time and they were very nice. Sardines, Cannelloni, Lasagne, Chicken in White wine and Chicken Kiev all nice.

We can't comment on the sweets as we had had too much having a starters and a main.

Is there an evening service issue because the waiter who served us on the afternoon was very attentive?

Amir was trying very hard and did well, he is not there in the day time, I don't think, as he is at GAU.

The Turkish waiter, whose name escapes me, was off hand to the point of rudeness and said he, "Didn't care," if I posted on the forum about our experience.

Perhaps he used all his charm and efficiency up at lunchtime or maybe they just can't cope when they are full in the evening.

Anyway a very, very disappointing evening for the six of us and a worrying lack of concern on the part of the staff.

I have just came back from 16 days in arapkoy and went to spagetti junction 3 times during our stay. Every time the food was lovely and the service was great. We have been going since not long after it opened and have no complaints and would say that the service is improving every time.

Msg 15

I do not understand your post! When, first to the third time you went there the 'the service was great' and now it's improving every time! What is better than great?!

i was sat next door a few days ago having a peach melba at mardos and they was very busy with most tables taken by locals who all seemed to be enjoying the food and service.

I think conversation has been lost with some of the ex pats , they just want to shovel the food down and not relax and make use of the table all night or most of the night.

If people want conveyor belt food they should go to Mc'donalds

Sorry Brinsley I should have been clearer. When I first went the staff seemed a bit inexperienced but very nice and helpful. Every time I have been since they seem to be getting more experienced and the service seems to be running a lot smoother. I said "great " because for me nice, polite and helpful goes a long way.

msg17 Unfortunately Brits are more interested in portion size and value for money..

As the old saying goes, Brits eat to live, whereas the French ,Italians etc, live to eat and relax .

Oh! and Brits tend to like food from "Iceland" with the obligatory Chips...

Thank you Swyflot, we too have high standards and know how to enjoy good restaurants and service and we know how to relax through a meal.

Martin D that is a hugely offensive generalisation about the British. I and two others in the group eat very little and find huge portions off putting.

David I know how to converse, I don't shovel food down, I dislike Macdonalds and would not even consider eating anything from Iceland.

SJ is perhaps a Pizzaland crossed with Macdonalds, yes the young locals, tourists and swallows love it but a good Italian restaurant with good food and service it most certainly is not!

I find that sad as we looked forward to having a consistantly reliable restaurant in Catalkoy, as Tony's Terrace has been missed since it's demise.

We have been several times to SJ but to explain away a comedy of errors as being due to the bosses birthday was feeble and the rudeness from staff, not us, was unprofessional.

You will either love SJ or hate it.

Yes, we too miss Tony's Terrace. Our Italian neighbours are opening an Italian (what else) restaurant in Girne soon, the old Sele restaurant premises so we will give that a try.

We don't want to be sung at, serenaded or otherwise "entertained"....just good food and convivial conversation in nice surroundings with not a shovel nor chips in sight !!

Is there another Italian restaurant opening at the old Ravida's in Lower Alsancak?

I decided to use "Lower" as Girne has an upper and lower and didn't feel any reason why Alsancak should not.

Technically speaking, lower Alsancak should be where the beaches are, middle Alsancak, where the main Girne/Lapta area is and upper Alsancak could be from the village upwards.

Those living in Esentepe should just be grateful that their area has a name!

Linda and I ate at Spag Jnctn last night. Good food, good service and (important to me) a decent wine-list.

No complaints at all.
