I have never seen as many Bee Eaters here before, they always arrive mid May and Mid September but this year there are flocks of them around Lapta, hundreds rather than twenty or so as previous years. Perhaps they are aware of the storm on its way for the weekend and waiting for it to pass before moving on?

There are a lot of unusual birds passing through at the moment. Yesterday I watched a group of 10 or so buzzards wheeling around over Karsiyaka and they drifted off towards Lapta. Today there were 2 or 3 hunting also over Karsiyaka.

these are my favourite birds, they arrived 3rd May and have been around for the last few days, sometimes doing very low swoops, I think they are totally fascinating.

You know when Bee-eaters are about when you hear squeaky noises high up in the air that sound just like somebody rubbing a wet finger on a pane of glass. Look up and there they are..
