Our log man is charging 300YTL for 2 ton of orange logs and 500YTL for 2 ton of olive. He is very fair and we have always been happy with the logs he has supplied us. If anyone is interested please ring 05338470144 and we can put you in contact with him as he does not speak english.

Susie the reason logs are more expensive this year is because there are less trees to cut down. Even the forestry dept are not cutting olive this year and i am sure they are charging between 230-240 ton for pine.

I suppose some of the more elderly expats could have a problem getting wood in winter.

As a rough estimate, if you just have the fire burning in the evening, how long does 2 tons of wood last?

re msg 20

God knows how you burn 1 ton a week. We only have the fire going from about 5.30 to 10.30 and 3 tons lasts us through the entire winter, By the way I pay 150ytl per ton for Olive wood and it's good dry stuff NOT this years cut which is difficult to burn.

Gibson Me too for logs...

We do go and collect most of our own wood... and it's good exercise but it doesn't hurt ot have a fallback option...

My favourite electric guitar sound for jazz by the way Gibson ES 335 only wish I could play but being a leftie it was not offered as an option when I was at school... still the drums are good and noisy.

Teresa; Ring Mehmet on 0533 8657159. Tell him you got the number from Graemein Ozankoy.

Groucho

glad to hear you like 335. The most versatile guitar ever made. I play Blues and rock mostly and have a vintage Blonde (natural)335. Also have a Flying v and a Les paul Special (both original Gibsons). Used to have an old Les Paul standard but sold it when I came out here as I had too many guitars.

Gibson 335, Would like his no: and just hope that a ton lasts more than a week or else i'll be burning my shoes instead. How do they afford £60 per week for 1 fire? Not as if it heats the rest of the house. Talk about money to BURN.

Just taken my second delivery this winter of citrus wood logs - long wheelbase builders tipper truck - 2.5 "tons" (so I'm told) - 300TL or 3.5 "tons" for 450TL.

Very happy with quantity, quality and size etc of logs.

A good Tip ...................................................................................................................When buying firewood, remember that first and foremost, it must be properly seasoned. The best way to get seasoned wood is to buy THIS years wood for NEXT year! For a scrupulous first time wood buyer, a moisture tester may be a good investment. Wood sellers will often tell you that even though this wood was split this year, it will be just fine. Except in the cases of pine, that is not true. Look for gray, or darkened, brittle wood that has a lot of cracks in the inner rings. Seasoned wood looks gray, or dark and dingy because it has been sitting sitting in the sun, drying, and collecting dust for a while. But, if you split it: it's dry and very WHITE inside! Unseasoned wood has the fresh clean look of new lumber at a building supply store. Unseasoned wood has that same fresh look on the INSIDE when it's split. Though seasoned wood is darker .

Once wood gets over 4-5 years old, it does start to deteriorate, so the best wood is 2-3 years seasoned. If you find good dry wood of any kind, you will really enjoy your fireplace! But, if you get stuck with green wood, you will be one very frustrated wood burner. Most wood for sale is "this years" wood. If you get serious about wood burning, you must always think one full year ahead! You should always buy this years wood for for NEXT year. Good buys of seasoned wood do come along, but they are often not advertised, because the serious wood burners already know where to go. If you are a first time wood burner, either buy dry, split fir, or hunt down really dry, cracking hardwood. You won't be sorry if you spend a little more money - just to make sure that you get trouble free firewood.
