Loose Boot's has suggested the idea of the TRNC flag on his Tee Shirt for his Marathon run for Ismail.

Great idea, I presume we would have to have Turkish and TRNC.

I have seen them on lots of Chefs Whites here. Can any one please tell us the correct procedure , and if we would be allowed to do this.

Thank You.

In Turkey it's illegal to have the flag on anything other than a flag.

im a bit confused with newscoops comment, there are world events that have taken place in Turkey and other countries use their own flags to represent themselves same as football matches, and what about the boats that arrive from other countries?they all show their own flag on the boat,as like the planes that land there.the TRNC is recognised by Turkey i really cant see a problem wearing a tee shirt with the northern cyprus flag on it

I suppose it is technically incorrect, but the velcro idia sounds good to me.

Incidentally there are many old laws that are nort enforced-I recall reading that football was banned in England, and that archery practice is compulsory at weekend.

neither have been repealed apparently.

If they pulled me off the course I would prefer after the first mile and not 25.

This is an extract from the Mymerhaba.com site

"The Turkish Flag it shall not be used on desks and podiums as a cover for any purpose except for official oath ceremonies. It shall not be put on places where people sit or stand. The shape of the flag shall not be made to these places and similar things. It shall not be worn as a dress or uniform. The Turkish Flag shall not be insulted or shown disrespect by speech, writing, action or any other means. The flag shall not be torn, burned, thrown or used without care. Any action that is against the Turkish Flag Law and the charter shall be prevented and relevant investigation shall be performed."

Its taken very seriously in Turkey especially outside of the main tourist areas, as for TRNC, well their attitude is always to suit them at the time. Why not go the local Police and ask them for their opinion. Better to be on the right side than have some person getting irate on the day.

Surely as its a major international thing they wont bother too much about a couple of emblems like somebody already said Haye the boxer did it

Don't shoot the messenger.

Just pointing out the etiquette involved, this is why you don't see Turkish flags on T shirts or shorts in the same way you do with the Union flag.

Mess 12; pointing out what happens internationally won't get you anywhere with the Turks.

Haye showed the TRNC flag presumably with the connivance of the TRNC.

Extracts of an article published on the Cyprus Mirroe (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) by Fazile Zahir on 17 December 2005:

When Şerife Çankhoğlu found an old Turkish flag in the bin, she thought it would be a good sunshade for her goats. With her husband's help she hoisted the flag up and tied it to four posts. The sun shone on the flag and the goats relaxed in the welcome shadow that it cast. Very soon, though, the couple were reported to the police; upon their arrival the farmers were arrested and are now being taken to court for bringing the flag into disrepute.

For the majority of Turks their flag is a highly respected symbol and its use is strictly governed and protected by law. Law 2893 came into force in 1983 and covers the reasons and occasions when the flag may be used and how. The flag may be draped across the coffins of Presidents and martyrs, but not average civilians. At the official opening of Atatürk statues and when swearing in new military recruits,

... one may put the flag on a table, but at no other time. According to the seventh statute of the same law one may not use a flag that is "torn, unstitched, dirty, faded, wrinkled or that has holes in it", and it is illegal to place the flag in places that are not worthy of it (ie the goat pen). All of these offences are strictly punishable. It is against the law to wear the flag symbols on a T-shirt, so at national football matches Turkish fans wear red and white rather than wear the flag symbol. It is forbidden to put the flag anywhere it may be sat on or trodden on. There is a prohibition on political parties, clubs and charities using the symbol. One may not insult or disrespect the flag in writing, by one's actions or orally. You may not burn, rip or throw the flag to the ground.

Thank You for all the info on the Flags. Strange that most chefs here have Both flags on there tops.
