I've been following the situation in Libya as I have acquaintances in in Bengahzi ( they are Brits who left in May - having seen a LOT) and returned via Egypt two weeks ago.

I followed the Libya blog on Al Jazerra..

Whilst 'we' have seen a lot of Libya in the news, the plight of people protesting in Syria has past under most folk's radar ..

Now video content has emerged of 'Special Forces' having sport with a civilian - and a subsequent vid shows what is obviously the bruised body of the poor guy .... WARNING don't view unless you REALLY want to be upset...

Perhaps, NATO should now look to Syria - as if they protected civilians THERE, why the 'eck are 'we' 'allowing' this to happen in Syria ? ..

Mark;

No offence mate but what's with the 'we'?

Eire are neutral.

They were in WW2 although they unofficially sided with the bad guys, (I know loads of Irish fought with the Brits)

They're not in NATO.

All they do internationally is provide bodies and make loads of money for the Useless Nations peacekeepers.

I am from N.Ireland.. last time I looked it was still part of the UK.. I do HAVE an Irish passport, but then I have CY id and could be Russian - if I lived there - after a period of time..

BTW.. The Irish weren't that 'neutral'

BBC Breakfast ( Sat 24th sept 11 ) is showing a Catalina Flying boat taking off from Lough Erne, commemorating the team that found the Bismarck- using the Donegal Corridor !

As one Irish pilot in the Royal Air Force said as his Lancaster bomber was being hit by German shell fire

'' Dont those bastards know we Irish are neutral ''.

I can concur with 'Tango'/msg 7:

In my novel 'The Remittance Man's Roots', I cite real life experiences of UK boarding school brutality in the 50's-early 60's that make 6m's video clip pale in comparison to what went on in many of these 'exclusive' boarding schools!

Fair play Mark;

Your link is interesting but follow the trail, the Irish government seemed to want it both ways.

They did nothing to be proud of, as a government, but as individuals?

mrssage 1:

"allowing this to happen in syria"

are so now we have world government, do we?

or is the un going to co-opt nato to bomb them?

...and all from the bloke who famously said that

the problem with cyprus was foreign interference

don't get me wrong, no apologies for assad's

grotesque regime

but does destruction in order to save work?

Watching that video clip reminds me of my friends kitten when it found its first live prey and set about to play with it , not a great deal wrong with either !

You perhaps fails to notice the inverted commas around the word 'allowed' .. in Cyprus I believe 'we' as in the UK deliberately fuelled the fire.. in Libya and Syria wouldn't we be 'putting it out ' ?

To get a little more back on topic, perhaps NATO, if it continues to look for something to do, should be sorting out their friends in Bahrain and Yemen.

message 15:

I still can't quite see how "we" could sort out syria, without a huge punch-up

as regards cyprus I still think independence would have happened anyway,

given the anti-colonial mood by the 1960's

oh, the joys of arrogance mixed with altruism, naiivity and legal gymnastics!
