Is there any way that someone can trace their ancestors via birth certificates through the national archives etc in Cyprus?

I've recently done a genealogy test on my grandad and it came back with european results. We all know that Cyprus has been a colony of many countries/civilizations. I've read in a few books about different populations converting to Ottoman tradition in order to avoid paying high taxes (which they would of charged to the foreigners).

Is there any way that I can look into this? Will I be able to get hold of pre-ottoman documents?

Thanks
