I've a friend visitting Paphos, he has an English Orange phone and I presume will be roaming on CYTA.

Can he call me in the North? Does he just dial 00 90 392.. Does CYTA block it? Can users in the South call phones in the North, both landline and mobile?

I presume I'll be able to call him, as he has an English mobile number and I'll just dial it.

Yes that is fine as long as he or she is on a UK sim card they can't block the call.

using a UK mobile to phone a mobile or landline in the North no problem, it will be treated as an international call and charged accordingly...................dont chat for too long.

There is no problem calling south to north or north to south, landline to landline, mobile to landline or mobile to mobile. All such calls are international but there is no blocking anywhere any more. There used to be along time ago but not for quite a few years now afaik.

Hi Erolz et al

totally reliable using UK or other nationality sim card between 'TRNC' / Turkey and 'rump' RoC - but VERY expensive...

ErolZ are you sure re reliability using mobile on CTYA / MTM to call 'TRNC' ?

I ask, as there was no roaming due to the fact that was no means to bill an unrecognised entity.. For example none of our 'rump' RoC mobile phones would work in Turkey (in addition to 'TRNC') - so I'm guessing that this was being reciprocated.

Maybe I am confused Mark. I was not talking about 'roaming' at all. I know I can ring my friends in the south from here using landline and (TRNC) mobile and they have rung me on my TRNC mobile from the south using their cyta mobile to my landline. I can not be 100% sure I have had a call from south landline to me in TRNC but am sure it will work.

Not the same thing as my TRNC mobile working if I am in the south, it does not if I am out of range of North towers.

In the old days say with a landline, you could not dial a South number directly from north landline. You had to use a UN 'exchange' dial them first and then dial out to the South from that. Not so now. AFAIK you can dial (internationaly) from south to north and visa versa without problems, landline or mobile.

calls no problem with uk sim card south to north, north to south. but cheapest option is a new pay as you go so easy sim card cyta voda will work south to north, and north to south if close to the borders, it work well in many places in the north, and its very cheap to use. you will save money using it to make calls back to uk etc..i hope this helps..

Jamboree re 9

Both Cyta and MTM pay as you go sims work GREAT in the Bogaz(i) area of the east coast - if in range of their base stns.. and they are no where NEAR the green line - they work off the Protaris masts... I know as I enabled my phones to broadcast which transmitter I'm working off.

As you say they are VERY good value to make international calls and to use to call 'rump' RoC phones.

re msg 8

Hi ErolZ, yup I am talking about roaming .. that you can't use a Cyta / MTM sim in 'TRNC' or Turkey - as if you ain't in range of a home network - you are stuffed :(

I kept a UK PAYG mob sim for emergencies if I needed to txt someone in the 'North' when there..

I recommend using a PAYG UK phone to RECEIVE sms ( txt) messages and SEND using SKYPE credit from one's PC - if trying to chat to the UK / 'rump' RoC and then SKYPE for nought

mmmmmm, msgs 7 & 10:

You mention 'rump' 4 times in your messages? Is this an acronym related to PIIGS, describing the now heavily indebted countries of the EU? Although rump is usually used to describe pieces of steak, and not pork...

ah, thanks for explaining!

It seems that my friend visiting the heavily indebted & 'downgraded' areas, will be able to call me.. He can even charge his phone when it runs out courtesy of Kibtek..
