Had to help my daughter buy a car late last year and it was very difficult knowing where to start as prices are so high, and I have next to no mechanical knowledge myself. The garages all seemed very helpful as they tend to realise foreigners have to pay their exhorbitant prices.

In the end we looked round lots of places and decided to buy from a "larger" garage near her work and they were very helpful especially as the paperwork seems very complex. The price included tax and insurance but I was never sure if this was the case at other places.

All I can say is take a Used Car guide from Britain to give you indicators on what to look for in second cars over there just the same as over here but also be prepared for the price to be double what it is here.

After reading this forum it seemed a poor idea to drive a car from GB to North Cyprus as you could get met with all sorts of unforseen charges at the border.

Good luck

you should be looking for a clean car from the owner himself not from a car dealer.

Buying a Car is generally your biggest expenditure next to a House purchase...Go to a reputable car dealer, after all you wouldn't dream of buying a House here from a dodgy Agent would you ...?

The thing is where would you start, who can recommend a genuine reputable car dealer for second hand cars.

A friend bought a car privately and has nothing but trouble with it. The owners have gone back to Germany so they have no one to complain too. At least a dealer stays put usually.

Buy the ALIM / SATIM magazine from any market.

It has hundrets of advertisements from owners and galleries.

You may cut out 10% 20% from those given prices according to your payment type - especially cash.

honestly, why would you want to take advice from people saft enough to have bought a property on a piece of land that was stolen at gun point ?

and people saft enough to live in a tin pot, third world country with a government akin to a laurel and hardy film ??

the KFC - you couldn't make a worser job if you tried...........
