To speed up any network connection use this program. Remember for 3G you should select DialUp as the connector (step3) and a speed of 3000.

Play with it and see what works best for you.

This software should be paid for but I have included a serial number.

Make sure you disconnect from the internet while installing and entering the serial number and do not do an update (read instructions!!).

I have used it today and my connection is now flying!!

http://www.systemlogix.co.uk/3G/Speed-Connect-6.5.zip

The legal bit: This software has been release for evaluation purposes only. If you like it buy it.

Ok. Download the file.

Double click the file and it should open.

You will find 2 files (1 the program the other a text file called Serial + Instructions.txt)

Run the program (after disconnecting from internet)

Open the Serail file.

Run the program from Start-Programs

Enter the email address and serial number from the text file.

Hopefully it should work.

Reconnect to internet and Optimise

Save settings

Restart computer.

Note: go to http://www.speedtest.net before installing and do a test, then afterwards do another to see if it has made a difference. Bet it has!!!!

Ok.

The problem you are having with installing this software is that you do not not have 2 microsoft files installed. You will need to download and install these.

AndyP,

Did the download, which I assumed was for us 2000 Pro users, but not at all sure it works OK. Maybe if you are in Girne near HSBC one day you could take a look.

Re:Msg 19

Ok. Seen this before and it can be fixed.

1. Go to c:\program files\CBS\Speedconnect*** and double click unins000.exe

2. Click Start-Run and type regedit

3. In Regedit click (left window) My Computer

4. On Menu bar click Edit-Find

5. Type Speedconnect. Then click Find

6. When it finds an enty delete the entry, then press F3 (to find more). Continue doing this until you get to the end.

7. Now look in HKEY_Current_USER/Software and delete the CBS software entry (if it is there).

You can now reinstall the software and it should work. Not sure why this happens. But this is the fix.

Remember, do not delete anything else while you are in Regedit or you will mess up your whole PC!!!

Msg24:

Try using these settings

Step 1 = Lan/Cable

Step 2 = Automatic

Step 3 = Wan (PPP/Slip) --- You must be connected to internet for this to work (3g only)

Oh yeah

One other thing to remember with 3g is that everytime you connect you will end up with different speeds. I have been testing this ie: connect - do a speedtest. Disconnect & Reconnect - speedtest results different everytime.

This is with or without this software installed.

No speedconnect will work on any network.

Top internet accelerator (according to PC Magazine), a network settings optimizer to speed up your existing Dial-Up Modem, DSL, Cable, Wireless, LAN, High-speed internet connections.

SpeedConnect Internet Accelerator is a powerful Windows application designed to optimize your network connection and speed up all your internet activities. This translates into a faster internet connection, faster browsing and email, faster downloads, faster online gaming, improved Skype connection.

Depending on the type of network connection you have, you might be able to tweak your connection so that the speed of your Internet, as well as your local area network, will be faster. By changing the System Registry and optimizing the TCP/IP parameters, SpeedConnect can fine-tune the values to take advantage of more reliable, faster Internet connections.

This may seem a daft question - and actually I'm pretty good with computers - but do you need to have the program running when you're connected to the internet or if not is it a good idea to run the program periodically to make sure the settings are optimised? Thanks by the way this seems to be working so far - will test again in the evening when our signal always seems to dip!

Thanks AndyP ! I just arrived on cyprus and purchased first an extend hotspot card which gave me VERY sporadic and weak signal here in

Dogankoy. So after reading about the 3G on this site I purchased the 3G on a month by month basis(don't know how long I will be here). I then found that I had a strong signal and 24 hour service but not any faster than extend hotspot. Now I have changed to UMTS only as you advised and, lo and behold, it is now working faster!

Thank you again for the excellent information ....,and while I am in the thanking mode...for all the other good information I read about on this site!

cheers from a happy new member!

Msg29: No you do not have to keep it running once you have optimised and rebooted.

Msg31: To gain a better result you would need to run the tests several times using both browsers as the results can very by the second due to bandwidth etc etc. If you do this test several times with both browsers, it would be good to see the results.

Msg32: It is always nice to read that something has worked and made a difference. Thank you for your appreciation.

Andy the most important factor for me would be Latency.Could you find out what the Latency would be on,say,a US website?

I am not yet in NC but the internet and Latency are vital to me!Thanks.

Another tip for ' keeping it fast '.............do not download more than 4gb a day......if you do the system automatically puts you down to 512 kbs speed and there you stay until you grovel to the nice lady on the helpdesk.

So what exactly is 'unlimited' about this service?

This's a little tweak that works for most XP users. Microsoft seems to, for some unknown reason, reserve 20% of your bandwidth for their own use in case you're downloading their updates etc.

That's 20%. You can't simply let 20% of your bandwidth be wasted! Let's get it back then...

Click start. Click on Run. Enter "gpedit.msc" without the " ofcourse. 'gpedit' or 'Global Policy Editor' is used to set and change system preferences and user rights.

Now goto "Local Computer Policy" -> Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->Network-->QOS Packet Scheduler.

Double click on "Limit reservable Bandwidth". Click on the explain tab for an explanation of it.

Now, enable it and set it to zero. Done...You get back that 20% reserved bandwidth.

Another way to improve your speed when web surfing, is to clear your browsing history. As long as you have your favorite websites bookmarked, there will not be any problems.

In Mozilla Firefox, you simply click "Tools" in your taskbar, then "clear private data". Then select the options that you wish to clear. Deleting cookies frees up a small amount of memory on your hard drive as well.

In Internet Explorer 7, you will click "Tools" then "Delete browsing history".

Look in C:\windows\system32 you will find gpedit.msc in there (hopefully). Double click it.

You need to be an administrator to run this program.

I have XP Home. XP Home does not have gpedit.msc - XP professional is needed to run it. There doesn't seem to be anyway to install it, and I doubt that it would help if I could - look at this link. http://www.realtechnews.com/posts/3113

Has anyone else had that problem where they lower your speed if you download a lot? I do download a lot of data daily and I have noticed a great loss of speed over the two months I have had 3G. If this service is supposed to be unlimited then I don't see why they are limiting it! Perhaps it is due to the large amounts of people signing up for 3G that makes the whole system go slower?

Mine seems to be getting faster and I am permantely downloading programs, films and music. I mean at least a gig a day. My torrents are running 24 hours a day.

I do have to disconnect and reconnect sometimes to improve the speed but other than that it's OK.

Having said that, wait till tmrw and I will now grind to a halt!!

I also download about 1gb a day too and like you it is running 24/7 but mine has got slower and slower. I still think 3G is better than all the wireless isp's over here because the signal is consistent and doesn't cut out like the others do, I just wish it would still be as fast as it started off.

Perhaps its slowing down do to the fact that more peple are moving over to 3G. Just a thought.

Sure Dutch will jump on this thread with his Maccy comments as well.

Hi Andy

I have downloaded and installed the Speed connect software but when i try to run it it states that "to run the application I must install one of the following versions of the .NET Framework V2.0.50727". Any ideas ????

Kind regards
