This is interesting . .. ... Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back.

It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow colouring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavourings.

DO YOU KNOW.. The difference between margarine and butter?

Read on to the end...gets very interesting!

Both have the same amount of calories.

Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams; compared to 5 grams for margarine.

Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.

Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.

Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few and

only because they are added!

Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavours of other foods.

Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years .

Continued from Msg 3.

Increases the risk of cancers up to five times..

Lowers quality of breast milk.

Decreases immune response.

Decreases insulin response.

And here's the most disturbing fact.... HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!

These facts alone were enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).

You can try this yourself:

Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it open in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will notice a couple of things:

* no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)

* it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value ; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic . Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

I think I have the hang of what the complicated post means. Butter is better but dearer in price than margarine. If you can find some paint cheaper than margarine use it as a spread on food. It can't be any worse than all the modern processed foods containing artificial sweeteners, colourings, preservatives, glutomates, e numbers etc etc.

All this talk of dangerous, genetically modified food tasting horrible is nonsense. I mean, just today I had a delicious leg of salmon.

I went to a German Restaurant the other day. Not a pleasant experience.

The starter was saurkraut, and it was bloody awful.

But the wurst was yet to come.

Why don't they say it tastes of diesel oil, as do most of the "spreads" Have you ever studied the side of a packet of ordinary spread, then gone on to Wiki to see what the long chemical sounding names are? Have a go it's very enlightening.

Elf and Safety banned the use of baskets as bread containers in restaurants but failed to ban their use for "soup in a basket". I needed plastic surgery to the nether regions soon after ordering that starter and the tempting "ring of beef" on the menu for main courses turned out to be no more than boiled bullock's a....hole ! I was too cute to be caught out by "Toad in the Hole" though.

slatnumber7, see http://www.snopes.com/food/warnings/butter.asp

Scallywags love get a little bit of fact and mix it up with a great dollop of fiction and see if they can get the gullible to swallow it whole...

Thanks to everyone who contributed, so some fact in it and some speculation. It came to me in an e mail from a pal and it caught my interest so I thought I'd pass it on.

The proverb below is from the link in post Message 21.

Chinese Proverb: "When someone shares something of

value with you and

You benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others."

All told there's information that lactating members of the forum probably weren't aware of......

Chinese proverb says: 'Woman who fly upsidedown in aeroplane have crack up!'

Back to topic:

If you've ever been to either a margarine, or a gelatine factory, you'll never knowingly touch either again!
