A friend of ours is coming to live in Lapta in January. He'll be banking in YTL for interest with a small UK pension. He's a moderate drinker and would like to eat out 2 times a week. Can anyone advise what they think his weekly YTL budget should be. We keep coming up with a different budget every time we calculate. Thanks.

size of house?

maybe appt?

stand alone or complex (with maintenance costs)?

how much a/c use in summer?

gas central heating?

renting or buying?

pool?

if pool - self maintained?

size of car?

How many (if any) trips back to UK a year?

These questions are probably why so many differing answers, more details needed. Suggest you look at:

Loads of threads on the subject there.

short term the 18-20% interest on the YTL is great, but when Turkey sort's itself out the interest rate will come down and be in line with other european cities.....

so 6% could be the norm......

It is hard to know what it costs to live and every week something seems to crop up....

You've also got to factor things like painting the place in a few years, replacement pumps, changing/maintaining the car etc.

Best to think of a figure then DOUBLE it.....

The Council tax on our old house in the UK is just under £3,500 p.a.

And they laughed when i said we were moving to the TRNC.....
