I understand that the new immoveable property bill will allow foreign buyers to buy up to 5 Donums of Land. The new bill provides freehold and long term leasehold ranging from 10 to 99 years for foreign property buyers and investors.

Does anyone know when is this effective from?

Instead of making constructive reforms like changing the specific performance law and actually enforcing the other laws here, they bring out new laws which don't do anything to give buyers protection. Why do they think people would want to buy 5 donums now when they can't get the kocans for the 1 donum they already have?

I think its an attempt to get more coffers in the chest, a desperate attempt to bring in outside investment that has not been fully thought out, who in the right mind will invest here looking at the past performance of treatment to forigen buyers. When existing laws are adhered too and enforced we may see trust develop, until then they are peeing in the wind.

Doyen,

Sure this isn't yet another coffee shop rumour being peddled as fact?

DN,

Words of wisdom, as usual.

A kocan from an illegal state is worthless, according to our friend Pvt Pike.

Mr Talat will illucidate, in due course!, ...no doubt.

Very interesting court case so spent the day up there with a snapper. They call it dogging, apparently.

These sailors have got the traditions of the Royal Navy to uphold. In a storm any port will do as they say.

This was an excellent, observant letter in Cyprus Today last week addressing the property crises

http://www.hbpg-trnc.net/documents/Press/CT151108_letter_justice.html

The writer offers the solutions that need to be made to all the property problems here once and for all. Why oh why won't the government/estate agents/lawyers listen once and for all?????

Many thanks to cocos for the link to HBPG, I had the honour to sit with Marion Stokes who has championed the the cause to protect the rights of buyers from whichever country they hail from.

I agree with every thing that was written in that artical , and whoever wrote it certainly has a good view as to the route that should be taken to correct all the injustice which a majority of buyers including myself have had to suffer.

I sincerely hope that this goverment starts to put the boot in where it is needed and sort out the wrongs that have been inflicted.

The goverment should be aware that other countries ,ie Tunisia for one have started to attract large numbers of buyers and have a good system to help a buyer when purchasing property, also a lot cheaper.

Marion is a true child of the Universe. She gave selflessly of her time. without thought for her own considerable problems. I too like comodore1 feel honoured to have shared a table with this lady. Our very best wishes Marion.

This is an excellent letter and really sums up the current situation for buyers and the changes that need to take place to get the economy here back on track. This problem is killing the economy here and with the current global financial crises it can only get worse unless the government pull their fingers out and act now.
