i stopped at a local roadside fruit and veg stall (ya beles)on my way home and a young lad, bout 10 or 12 was giving his mum n dad some lip and badly misbehaving.he ran away from the stall and into he busy main road.an old turkish man grabbed him by the earhole, pulled him from the roadside ,smacked his arse and gave him a proper face to face telling off while still twisting his earhole....the kid s...tarted crying and the mum and dad stood by and watched on until the bloke had finished his bollocking, both parents shook the old mans hand and thanked him gratefully, the kid, without being prompted apologised to his parents and then said sorry 3 or 4 times to the old man,he then carried all the old boys bags and loaded up the boot of his car.....and the dad kindly offered the old man a cigarette................. now thats what i like about living in a country where you are bought up to show respect for your elders..........not just the kid,but the parents too

and thats why i love the trnc, the culture, society and level of respect that makes it a pleasure to live here. if that would have happened in england, the kid would have told the old man to fu*k off,the dad would have given the old boy a good hiding,a police comunity support officer would have called the police, the old man would have been arrested for assaulting a minor and the dad charged with actual or grevious bodily harm. both would have spent the night in a police cell and in the morning, both parties would have been asked if they would like to drop the charges and accept an official police caution and a policeman would spend 5 hours the next day filling out paperwork ,while the kid had a good laugh about it with his mates at school the next day....... long live the trnc!!!

mum and dad stood by ??? they should have been the ones to tell him off, i know what you are saying...but this is why kids in UK have no respect because the parents have no skills ...just my opinion it was also a kindly gesture to grab the private parts of young boys in Turkey......by older men .... it was in no was pervy, but seen as a familiar gesture...now try that in the UK

Congratulations to the public spirited 'spanker stranger'! Some people may remember the 'phalanga' scene in the film 'Midnight Express' - that was gruesome!

Compare and contrast.... the scene, a beach in France. A whole family on the beach for a Sunday picnic with mongrel dog in tow. Not long before the dog starts doing the rounds of all the other families on the beach trying to drag-off their food. Annoyed father goes grabs the dog and pulls it back to their group with a slap that makes it yelp... son remonstrates with father who promptly give him a belt too...son screams for ages. Wife then takes husband to task over violence at which point he gives her a belt for good measure... At this point the beach started to clear as this had spoiled everybody's enjoyment. If it wasn't true, it'd be comical.

as an ex-teacher in a secondary school in the UK, who has been on the receiving end of abuse from the future generation growing up there, I really enjoyed reading this. I can remember as a kid being terrified when a policeman caught me playing in a woodyard, where I should not have been. He dragged me out by the arm and wrote my name in in his notebook, threatening to inform my parents if he every caught me there again. I was nearly wetting myself and I can tell you this -I never did go back to play in what was actually a very dangerous place for a kid to be. It is all about respect and - yes a little bit of fear. The kids today in the UK have no fear of any authority, especially of teachers, which is why society is disintigrating. I do have fear, for my grandchildren who still live in the UK and like bigjuss I love living here because respect and family values are still important. God forbid that we go back to the days when it was ok to beat kids, but chastisement never hurt anyone.

If you have to smack your children to take control - you did not raise them correctly in the first place. I have 4 children and have never smacked any of them at any age. Even at the age of 25 my advice is asked. What is it the links violence with respect. It must be a roman thing, where they slaughtered the barbarians to civilise them. And we are in 2011 right? Or am I mistaken?

When there is no respect for Police or the Law, you don't fear them - some Police act in an aggressive cocky oftentimes abusive physically and verbally, manner - forgetting - mobiles can record anything these days, and the Law in England is a joke - you can literally get away with murder. I was never hit by my parents, nor at my school (if any teacher had raised a hand to a child, the teacher was dismissed immediately) and I never raised my hand to my child - physical attack is an inarticulate response to a situation, where removal, or cancellation of a treat et cetera - works just as well. As to children leaving school at 11 barely able to read or right - what does that tell us about the calibre of teachers these days? To get respect, one has to give it...

lovely to hear bigjuss, yfred,i smacked my kids when they were naughty up till the age of around 7-8 after that if they played up they were threatened with a smack which usually worked,if we took them out they were well behaved and never through tantrums,i also was a child minder for over 25yrs and had over 30 kids in total,i never lifted a finger to any of them but threatened to tell their parents, and i will say that the kids who did get smacked by their parents were a hell of a lot more behaved than the ones that didnt.

MrsG, don't be silly. When a child misbehaves and gets told off and the next day a parent turns up with a hammer to sort the teacher out, who's fault is it again? Certainly not all teachers are the same. Respect starts from home. By the age of 7 the charcter of a child is formed. Like it ot lump it child development is a triangle of Parents Teachers and Children. All have to work at it.

Oooh this is a subject for another threa I think. yfred, you think you are so clever for not smacking your four children. I/we have one.... the day she told us to F''''''k off out of her room, deemed the day she had a bloody hiding. I hasten to add, we do not use that language, even if we did, that was such a lack of respect, how did you deal with that? you must have come across it, or a similar situation, after four children?

My apologies everyone but I am actually reading hypocrisy at its peak! So how many of you would allow a teacher smack your child, if he was to tell the teacher to "f**k off as well as physically challenge him or even worse?

Hitting children or any other person is assault and wrong. I would not appreciate an old man hitting my child but then again I would not let a tantrum get to the stage a stranger had to intervene. Do love being here and appreciate family values but there are other ways to discipline children.

Suel5; Not all children are ready for "other ways". Especially when more than half the marriages end up in divorce, and single parent mothers are almost as many as the happily married ones in a country (and many of those single parent mothers are not even old enough to look after themselves)! No wander (after the recent riots) everyone have been asking each other where they went wrong! The disrespect, bad behavior, and violence & crime in UK must be one of the highest in Europe - so it is not really working is it? I can probably find a direct mathematical relationship between the "political correctness gone mad" and the above. One seems to increase as the other one does...

I suspect this elderly man does not go around smacking children just for the fun of it. The kid ran out in to a busy street and could have been killed. Kids respond to pain and pleasure, adults do too, but most adults can mediate their reaction to a stimulus. Its all to do with the pre frontal cortex which is undeveloped in kids. The pain and shock of a smack will have created a strong stimulus in the childs neurology thus ensuring he does not jump in to the road again. Lets face it, the pain from a smack is going to be much less severe than if he was hit head on by a truck. Well done to that elderly gentleman for potentially saving that childs life in the future. Its a great story and the TRNC culture has not lost this vital wisdom. The liberal elite in the UK could learn a lot. It should also be remembered that too much smacking can lead the child to experience PTSD. This is bad news. Both Stalin and Hitler were repeatedly beaten and look at how they turned out.
