Hi, what are the dates of the Remembrance concert this year at Chateau Lambousa and what role will the Royal British Legion ( Kyrenia branch ) take in the concert.

Chorus Lambousa's Festival of Remembrance / Last Night of the Proms concerts are scheduled to take place for four nights from Wednesday 9th - Saturday 12th November from 19:30.

Following the rave reviews for last year's shows an extra Wednesday night has been added; the proceeds of which are to be donated to the British Cyprus Memorial for the upkeep of the old British Cemetery in which the VC grave and the British Cyprus Memorial (commemorating those 371 servicemen who died during eoka's terrorist campaign) are both situated.

These uplifting concerts contain many classic favourites and the audience is strongly encouraged to join in and participate in many of the songs, eg Land of Hope & Glory, Jerusalem etc. Also, participants are invited to bring as many bits of bunting, flags, banners and the like to decorate and add to their evening.

Reservations are TL25 and include a glass of wine. Reservations can be made at the Lambousa Market on Saturdays or by calling 0533 862 4662.

The RBL Kyrenia Branch will have our standards on display each evening as well as providing banners, wreaths etc and the Chairman will once again MC the event. And of course a lot of the ChorusLambousa choir are now branch members.

Currently 21 UK based Cyprus Campaign veterans have booked in to attend the final evening when the Lord Maginnis of Drumglass will be the VIP guest.

There will be a stall selling poppies etc each evening manned by our Vice-Chairman Les Evans and on the last evening the proceeds from the raffle will go towards the Poppy Appeal.

So hopefully we will see a good turnout.

A professional bugler is also part of the proceedings; to add timbre to the event.

My husband has just had a titter and asked how you can combine the two events which are held at The royal Albert Hall weeks apart. We were both prommers of front row status for years (alan clocked up 50 years and got recognition from the Beeb) but hardly ever attended the Service of Remembrance (well I did once when married to a guy who worked at the RAH), . so how did this combination come about. the Last Night of the Proms second half is but part of the ending of a fabulous series of concerts, whereas the Remebrance is a thing apart.

talk about 'Only in Cyprus' - but in many ways a great idea, but for us it seems an odd combination. Have your Remembrance with the singing of Jerusalem, Land of Hope and glory and even Rule Britannia, but it is hardly Last night of the Proms. Now if he had been free our mate Graham could have comde over and done the lead cello bit which he does each year - when they have these things which got abandoned this year. sir Henry Wood no doubt turned i

turn in his grave as would Sir Malcolm Sargent.

Enjoy!

By the way, not that anyone would care, but I have in my archives a picture of me in The Guardian of the day, singing rule Britnania (not as the soloist, but from the rail). Ah, those were the days.

The format worked really well last year.

Last Night of the Proms: to allow for unashamed, exuberant, patriotic, flag-waving fun - while joining in as well.

Celebration of Remembrance: because it's that time of year: remembrance and poppy season, and also because a large proportion of the proceeds go to the upkeep of the splendid new memorial to the 371.

It's a synergy that's perfectly appropriate to Cyprus all things considered.

So book up via:

TEL: 0533 838 7824

EMAIL: chorustheatrelambousa@hotmail.com

NB This year the proceeds from the Wednesday night performance are being donated to the the British Cyprus Memorial for the upkeep of the old British Cemetery in which the VC grave and the British Cyprus Memorial (commemorating those 371 servicemen who died during eoka's terrorist campaign) are both situated.

Not pic, king fault, just commenting! People comment on my likes and dislikes, but I don't call it picking fault - just an indication of what things mean to us all.

I did say 'enjoy' in my comments, and I know that a lot of you will, but I have too many speciaql memories of the 'real' thing , or am I saying that i might burst into tears with emotion at all the memories and disgrace myself?

sincerely, enjoy. I guess I am not very British at heart really, and that is possibly the main fault - mine!

again I say, enjoy.

Oh I might say that I think the proceeds that Gordon has saying are being given on the Wednesdaty night is possibly the most appropriateone of all. Now I may not be British, but I think it is extremely important to remember those who died, especially who died on foreign soil in a place that it owuld appear will be 'forever England.'

For those who want to go to this, it deserves to go to the top and not get lost.

I see on the events page you have a picture of the Last night of the Proms, which I would remind you is the last night of a two month series of concerts, but here is an offer. I can provide you with a black and white picture of the last night a few years ago in which alan and I feature (but it was rather in 'The Dark Ages') when the one and only Last night was in the royal Albert hall!

It has always seems strange how people do Last Night of the Proms x 4 (this year). i.e. last night, last but one night, last but two nights and last but not least, last but three nights!!! But then this is North Cyprus after all I guess

Heh heh - yes I suppose so

But as explained above it's more to do with the format of the event:

Last Night of the Proms: to allow for unashamed, exuberant, patriotic, flag-waving fun - while joining in as well. After all, that's what those outside the cognoscenti associate with the Last Night isn't it...

I am sure that there are those who feel that the combination of "Last Night of the Proms" and Remembrance is a little unusual - but this mixture has actually been very successful to date. A lot of people put in a great deal of hard work to produce these events, for their own pleasure and also as a mark of respect for those who were involved and are still involved in wars.

I also used to go to the Proms on a frequent basis. I also went to the Ballet, the Opera and a lot of other things. I don't feel that this would entitle me to titter or sneer at the efforts of those involved merely because it doesn't fit a certain pattern.

Other hand-flags will be available as well.

Songs in this production which the Chorus are very much encouraging the Audience to join in with include:

Bless 'em All,

White Cliffs of Dover,

If You Were The Only Girl in the World,

Keep the Home Fires Burning,

Long Way to Tipperary,

Pack Up Your Troubles,

Run Rabbit,

Old Bull & The Bush,

Drunken Sailor,

We'll Meet Again,

and of course the classics:

Jerusalem,

Rule Brittannia,

Land of Hope and Glory.

All ages welcome!

Singing, flag-waving and enjoying yourself positively encouraged!

It's now three weeks until 11:11:11 on the 11th of the 11th in 2011.

The concert on that night will see the banner of the newly formed Kyrenia Branch of the RBL paraded following its formal dedication earlier that day.

The standard will be on show for the full run of the concerts and any other flags and standards are welcome to be flown.

The Standard (not a banner) will be paraded by Kim Tyler the nominated Standard Bearer for the RBL Kyrenia Branch.

And very smart he is too!

We have 3 tickets for Chorus Lambousa for this Saturday evening.

"The Annual Celebration of Remembrance and Last Night of The Proms"

Baron's Theatre, Lapta. Saturday 12th November. 7:30 pm. (Doors open 6:30 pm).

If you want them, but cannot get a reply from me, just see someone at the Theatre tonight asking for ticket numbers 64, 65 & 66.

Failing that ring one of the organisers, Glynys on 0533 846 0702.

It will be a shame if the tickets go to waste.

Thanks.
