I would go to your mum's... but maybe that's not the only place you'll get overcooked turkey and undercooked tatties.... ;¬)

We never went out for a traditional Christmas lunch when I was a lad... so I'm not starting now... I love preparing it and my family love eating it...

Sorry to hear about your mum... I guess we are all reaching the age when it's a fact of life..

Really I don't know why so many people go out for Christmas lunch here... So many of the hotel kitchens seem to make a total cock-up of it... they just don't know how to do it in the sort of numbers they get and it seems someone is always geting cold plates, no potatoes, scraps of meat and worst of all cold veg... yuk.

So you'll here good reports from the first to get served and bad ones from the last.... sod's law says you know which one you'll be... again.

Why not take the money you'll save and buy a nice bottle of bubbly some smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and treat yourself to a super breakfast..

Then slowly prepare a lovely Christmas lunch and know you'll get exactly what you wanted...

Unless what you want is the company of a load of ex-pats in which case I can't help you....

negativenick - remember this post from makaozy on the thread "Matrimonial advce...."

"It would be hard for my mother to like me as she has just died of cancer...I'm sure she did when she was alive though...

Thanks for your comment, it has really made my day"

Strange is'nt it - are you both related in anyway?

Well not quite. One recent Christmas we slowly prepared the Christmas lunch.

It was slower than usual as we had a power cut.......... so now we dine out as the meal was ruined.

I know some friends are going to the Hillside in Lapta for Christmas Lunch. I know the Sunday roasts are very good so think you can't go wrong with the Special Day! Very intimate and very friendly host.

Hope this helps.

I am in UK this year with the folks otherwise I would be there!

I'm doing Christmas "Groucho" style.

Groucho, I expect a full menu recipes and instructions, together with a "things to do list" on a daily basis, in the countdown to Christmas from 1st - 24th December inclusive.

I promise you I will follow every single recipe and instruction.

I'm not going anywhere! My two gorgeous sons are flying in from the U.S.for a couple of weeks and we'll be doing a traditional (part Aussie/part American) day at home, enjoying each other.

Scampy, you will have a blast with an Aussie Christmas - hot day, cold lunch, cold wine .... the best!

Enjoy, everybody, whatever you choose..............

Kay,

No problem... I'll do the twelve days of Christmas... "Groucho stylie"...

In advance of this.... first make a simple plan of what you want to happen on the day.

Without a plan it might all happen by lucky happenstance but like as not it might all go horribly wrong... i.e what you want to eat and start looking in the shops for it stuff like Cranberry Sauce... don't leave it 'til Christmas eve to find the Turkey Foil etc. and think about what time you want lunch to be ready on the day.

Then for those living here, make a plan B just in case there is a power cut... I will include details of how to prepare or finish off some of the important dishes using the hob and a BBQ. you can still do roasties, turkey, stuffing, all the trimming and vegetables if you have a plan B.

Even those in the UK might find the oven goes on the blink... it does happen... somebody's oven must give up the ghost each day....

I'm going to my friend Penny's for her brilliant christmas dinner. As anyone knows who has sampled her food at either Tolga's or The Chateau, she is a great cook. - And we will have a lot of fun in a real traditional Christmas.

P.S. Forgot to mention, at last count it is an almost equal mix of Cypriots and British, including children, and everybody joins in.

What exactly do you have against the Malpas ? The staff there work very hard only to have people like you

cutting them down.

I suggest you stay at home at Christmas where you can't upset anyone. Or find somewhere that does an alcohol only deal.

You really are a miserable s*d !

Take no notice Begonia , he was going on about another restaurant a week or so ago , where everybody but him had nothing but praise for the food there . As for the fiasco he talks about at the Malpas , it could just be that he had caused the fiasco himself , and has been banned from there . Not leaving a lot of choice for him , if he complains about most of the places , he's not going to be welcome anywhere eh ? { besides it was a 2008 posting , and he is no longer in NC ?? }

Have a good day , Simbas

Thank you AJ for that.....................I don't think people notice. It's a shame old derogatory posts keep coming up for such a long time . Perhaps they should be removed from the board after a certain length of time. Many busineses are being harmed by this problem.

I believe Christmas 2008 was a great success at the Malpas.
