Just to let everyone know that we have received permissions to run a bonfire night - with fireworks - at the Chateau Lambousa on the 5th November. It is envisaged that there will be an enormous bonfire, fireworks, fete-type games, food and drink and also competitions including, obviously, a Guy effigy competition.

We are still in the process of complying with the myriad, though extremely sensible, requirements of the Fire-Brigade, Kaymakam, Police, Fire-Consultant, and others and will post more details as they become apparent. So far we have provided a four donum clear space with adequate parking separate to this, two water points and two pumps. We are in the process of constructing a fire point with hose.

Hope you have a successful night.

Hope your 'enormous bonfire'and fireworks are monitored professionally and there are no mishaps. The land at the moment is tinder box dry.

Once again.I hope you all enjoy a successful night.

It's from the North - parkin and Theakstons are the only good things ever to come out of Yorkshire.

Here's Delia's recipe:- http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/type-of-dish/sweet/traditional-oatmeal-parkin.html

As this is in the run-up to Remembrance Sunday, the bonfire night is being held in conjunction with the newly formed Kyrenia Branch of the Royal British Legion.

Hi Lizzie,

I am disappointed. I thought I would promote a bit of fun by starting a new "War of the Roses" - but nobody has risen to the bait. But I suppose it is unfair to start a battle of wits with a group who are unarmed.

Another evening of chilled beer on a frosty evening with a mammoth bonfire and funky fireworks we hope

There will be music and entertainment from the inimitable Pete and we're pleased to announce that the Stringfellas will be playing some great folk-music live with an expanded line-up.

The RBL will be selling food, manning stalls and running games - so monies to a very worthy cause.

Entrance is TL10 per adult and TL5 per child.

And on that road there are a lot of Yorkshire bends- why do we call them Yorkshire?-because they are very tight.

The stake has been raised.

It's on the larger side: allowing for a multitude of Guy Fawkes to be burned. The RBL are running a competition for the best one.

We're still finalizing arrangements. However, we anticipate that the order of proceedings will be somewhat earlier to allow for children's bed-times. Also the clocks will have been set back by then so it will be darker earlier.

Gordon as one who can eat a slice of humble pie, I would like to wish you all the best for Saturday. It sounds as if you have spent a grat deal of time in organising the event. Yes some of my words were a little harsh but I have to stick with my opinions.

We are unable to attend the Festival or Rembrance Sunday events, as we will be in the UK. However it is our intention to visit the Cenotaph in London on that day! Again Good luck with all your efforts!

Take the main coast road or the new bypass from Kyrenia to Lapta.

When at the Lapta strip turn left after the LA Hotel. Take the first left thereafter.

Regarding parking:

Please do not park on the drive to the Chateau.

Please be advised that the road to the old Stumble Inn / Leadaz bar will be closed as the fields there are to be reserved for the fireworks professionals and that road to be kept absolutely free for emergency services.

So there will be no parking available there or on the Chateau's North field (bonfire site).

There will be some parking available at the Chateau and also at the Celebrity parking site between Hanimeller / Manolya. Otherwise we suggest parking at the fields around the LA Hotel-Lapta turning and walking up along the drive.

Well done Gordon for entangling all of the red tape and getting permission for tonights Bonfire party, to all of the RBL members for their stirling efforts organising the stalls and food and 'Pearl' for their very hard work erecting the music stage today for us all to play on. The evening certainly went with a 'bang'. If everyone enjoyed themselves as much as we did playing, then it was a worthwhile event. Thanks to all.

Many thanks to all who attended. It was a lot of fun and a great pleasure to see so many agog!

Particular thanks to:

Kim and his team of fire marshals (aka a Hippo and some Herberts).

Terry Carter and the 112 support crew.

Pam and all the RBL volunteers for feeding us parkin, toffee apples, burgers and hot-dogs and for relieving us all of oodles of cash at the fete games.

Woody Martin for setting the fire, sign-writing and building pre-sunk ships.

Mark Rumbelow for stirling service to the bar.

The 3 Mehmets of Chateau Lambousa for Tech, Bar and Sherpa work.

Pearl for the great music and the extremely kind use of stage and sound rig.

The Stringfellas for the folk-music.

DJ Pete for inimitable compering.

Yuksel Bey for the wonderful fireworks.

Lapta Police, Girne Police, the Fire Service, Girne District Office and the local Muhtar.

F P Long, Danny and everyone else who helped in any way for everything else.

See you next year!

Good fire, good fireworks, decent music and some wonderful traditional stalls for all to enjoy.

Hopefully to be repeated every year from now on?

Congrats on a good fire and firework display but maybe next year more stalls providing food? All of it was gone by 7.30 so we didnt get to try the burgers and onions and left earlier than we wanted to get a meal.

Otherwise, great job everybody!

We too left by 8:00pm unfortunately due to there being no food left and the children were getting hungry, also possibly a bigger assortment of food and drink as there was very little drink wise for young children. The actual firework display was great. Also if this is organised again could there be someone looking after the toilets as they were blocked by 7:00pm and in a pretty bad way.

Apart from that, great night.

The RBL Kyrenia Branch committee would like to publicly thank Gordon Kent for organising this years Bonfire Night which was a considerable success.

It was quite a gamble for him to take on this project not really knowing if it would be supported by the public. But in hindsight we should have known that you would all get behind it as you most certainly did last night.

We should be in a position tomorrow to let you know how much was raised on the RBL Stalls for this years Poppy Appeal.

We thank everyone for their wonderful support and second Gordon's sentiments in Message 67.

In addition everyone who manned the RBL stalls can hold their heads up high - you did a wonderful job.

If it is to become an annual diary event, which we sincerely hope it will, then the comments regarding more food stalls etc will be taken on board.

Absolutely wonderfull eveing, thank you so much Gordon and all who helped organise such a wonderful night.

The money raised is going to a wonderful cause, so to all you NEGS complaining about loosing a few hours sleep think about our young men and women coming back from conflicts minus a few of there limbs, fighting to protect your freedom.

I do not understand why Bonfire night is celebrated in Cyprus, it is a British thing and I hate it, the wildlife and pets are terrified by the bangs and all I can say is those who enjoy this dreadful event are not remotely concerned about the damage they do, having said that the way animals are treated in Cyprus I don't suppose anyone cares.

great effort Gordon, really positive coments from everyone apart from a couple of kill joy saddos, oh well, you can't win 'em all.

cassius, i think your sad post says more about you than it does about the bonfire.

marks, everyone doesn't care wether you hate it or not, we all had a good time. wildlife, what wildlife ? it has already been shot or poisoned.

Yes, it was a terrific evening, I agree, well done to all who helped to organise this event.

As for the misery bums, all I can say is, at least the fireworks were for one night only.
