Re: Msg 1,

Don't you think it has something to do with the EU rules and regulations? (All potato varieties have to be identified at point of sale).

In the North they well may grow several varieties , but they don't have to be identified.

In addition, there is a great problem of storage of ALL agricultural produce because of the lack of investment.

When I was young, before fruit and vetegables were sprayed, packaged, flown all over the world and left to age on supermarket shleves, Cyprus Potatos (especially new potatos) were welcomed seasonally and were considered to be particularly tasty - rivalled only by Jerseys.

Enjoy the food of the country. (but try to get them when they are newly delivered rather than spent too long in storage or imperfect conditions on a shelf), You can usually tell by the state of the skin)

But do not forget the İrish spuds if they ever let them be exported..............big, flowery spuds with the skins bursting open when you cooked them in their jackets

As good as Cyprus spuds but totally different.

Rob,

as greengrocers in the Uk, all I can say to you, is if you don't like the potatoes here, go live in the south. I'll take you, if you like.

We have lovely spuds here, yeah sometimes they're coming to the end, but I actually love the seasonal veg. here.

I for one, wouldn't change a thing.

Cyprus spuds were on sale in Tescos in Barnstaple earlier this year, complete with the dirt still attached.Judging the colour of the dirt and the taste i think they came from the North. It just said product of Cyprus on the tray.

msg 10 Flowerfairy, I don't remember saying I don't like TRNC grown spuds, I was just wondering why when some 12 varieties are grown on the Island, we only ever get one...

Simbas, which of the 12 Cyprus grown spuds is your favourite .

Well said Flowerfairy, the local produce here is delicious rather than the 'cool stored, don't know how long it has been there' fruit and veg in some places in the UK. Eat seasonally!

I think the potatoes here are great and so adaptable. I don't want to have to go back to the days of wandering up and down the aisle looking at potatoes marked chipping OR baking OR mashing OR red OR white. I just want potatoes where I can pick out the large or the small!!!

Msg 13

Rather a sick remark, read Irish history, assure you there was a famine, and there are graves all over the country to prove it.

Why is it that when someone says they dont like this or they dont like that someone comes on here and tells them to go live somwhere else.

I have lived here for 9 years and love it but do not believe that ever thing is perfect.

Steptoenoel. I am an Ards man and you are correct. A good Comber spud is hard to beat ( we will be getting told to go back to Ireland unless we are prepared to love the spuds here ) but did you know that Ireland used to export seed potatoes to Cyprus ?

Because if some one started to import different brands of potatoes to Cyprus the Duty would be very high so to protect the Cyprus potato market/growers already extensive range of spudz.

Then every one would be screaming at how expensive imported potatoes cost here.

IMHO Cyprus spudz are maybe some of the best spudz on the market today in the world.
