| I don't have any myself but I think this is now about the end of harvest time for the current year crop so the time is now for pruning. As for pruning the usual rules apply. Cut out any weak branches. Remove inward growing branches. Trim back sturdy branches by about one third and cut above an outward growing bud/newish growth. Buy a good quality pruning saw, no need to go for an arm breaker, the folding type are lightweight, sharp and effective if you can get something like a 'Stanley' or a Ceka' they will do a great job and last for years. Make your first cut underneath the branch and then from the top or front, supporting the weight of the branch with your free hand to avoid tearing and stripping the bark from the part of the branch you are leaving pruned. Hope this helps. All the best, Sb. |
