The following is correct as Far asI am aware having checked in person with customs at metahan.

1. AMENDMENTS TO THE GREEN LINE REGULATION

Following a proposal made by the Commission on 10 April 2008, on 16 June 2008 the Council adopted a Regulation amending the Green Line Regulation to further facilitate trade on the island of Cyprus.[2]

The amending Regulation, the impact of which will be examined in next year's Green Line Report, provides for a general lifting of duties on agricultural products originating in the northern part of Cyprus when being traded across the Line. Furthermore, the total maximum value of goods contained in the personal luggage of persons crossing the Line is increased from € 135 to € 260 so as to encourage the economic development of the Turkish Cypriot community. Goods up to this amount can now be introduced free of customs, excise duties and taxes across the Line into the government-controlled areas of the Republic of Cyprus. This rule does not apply t

apply to cigarettes and alcohol. Finally, the amendments regulate in a transparent way the temporary introduction of goods (for up to six months) from the northern part of Cyprus into the government-controlled areas.

Living in North Cyprus and shopping in south Cyprus – or indeed, reversing the scenario and living in the south and visiting the North’s markets, boutiques, gold shops and vibrant stalls for example, presents one restriction at the moment. You are restricted on the amount you can buy and transport across the buffer zone. At the moment the restriction is EUR 135 per person – which is plenty if you’re just on a modest shopping spree. But this is nowhere near enough to have a significant effect on trade on either side of the G http://www.shelteroffshore.com/index.php/living/more/living-north-cyprus-shopping-south-cyprus/reen Line.

Nige

Is it true that you aren't supposed to buy and bring back electronic goods from the South regardless of whether they are under the limit ?

I seem to recall this restricion being said before somewhere.

Thanks

I was stopped at the border and customs said very clearly no furniture or electrical goods - although they did let me off that time. This was earlier in the year so it might have changed once, twice, three ......... times since then.

I doesn't matter what is listed on this site it just depends on how the officer is feeling when you cross over. My advice is if you can hide it, do so or you may loose it!

Good luck!
