Hi All,

Last May our builder told us he had ran out of money and unless we paid the outstanding balance, our property would not be finished, after much discussion we paid, their are 9 properties on our land, only we paid the outstanding balance, everyone else held back.

Our property is finished apart from the paths and garden, although things were only done when we were their (I think this is normal over their).

The ones who didn't pay, and one in particuler who lives their, are on the builders back all the time, one who has the most outstanding balance, their property (empy) is being used by the electrician, plumber etc...... for toiliting, lunch breaks and so on (even though their is no water to this property) YUK.

So pay or not to pay?

Hi britvic

Sounds like your builder was upfront and telling the truth.

Not many of them about. it's said.

Good luck in your new, finished, build.

Yes Mack,

We were 4 years into the build before they came clean, but it is riscky.

So has anyone paid the outstanding balance and not got their building finished?

Msg 7

I'm talking about builders in general, not just ours, which I won't name.

If he needed the money to finish the building, how is he going to pay his taxes to transfer the deeds?

He'll be around with his hand out again soon

Already happened Mark, plus we had to pay extra for our window's and shower screens instead of shower curtains, even though it say's in our not-worth-the-paper-it's-writen-on contract, we would have shower screens.

Its a difficult one. I would be inclined to suggest a sum of money for the house as it stands and only on release of title deeds to an advocate of my choice. I certainly would not want to be handing over any more money to this builder, nor would I want him invloved in any part of completing the build.

Will you now be on builders electric for years to come? Will the rest of the site rot around you? At the very least you will continue to live on a builders site for years to come? Its unfair to be put in this situation and I can see why you took the action you did.

There are several people finding themselves in this situation and they appear not to have any redress. Its really a form of blackmail and whatever you chose to do you can't win.

I wish you all the best and hope it turns out alright in the end.

Shopper, Yes they are now saying we have to pay for the transformer, so when we were over their last we went to kibtec in Girne they can come out and do a survey, and let us know how much it cost's, the residence are going to pay for it collectively, that way we are not handing over more cash to the builder.

Bradus thankyou for your input.
