Hi Turtle, just looked at your member info and it says you are only 23. How do you remember the Yorkshire accent from 20 years ago?

Glad you like the show - and you can hear it online if you follow info from message 1. Let me know if you can get it.

A great choice of music for Sunday, thank you Mike.

Hey Turtle and Hattikins, don't just listen in, send me some of your favourite singers and songs and if they are appropriate for the show (ie, not the modern hip hop, garage, techno-pop or the heavy rock of the late 60's and 70's) then I'll play them for you if I can.

That also goes for any of you other listeners who log on to the 'forum'.

Great choice! (I think the Rolling Stones did an instrumental version as a 'B side' to an early single called 'Now I've Got a Witness')

Hi Riddles, yes they did that instrumental, but as far as I know it never came out as the 'b' side to one of their singles (unless it was one for a foreign export only). It was certainly on their first ever album release - 'The Rolling Stones (UK)'. It was written by the famous Motown writers - Holland, Dozier & Holland

Hi Richard, I did play you a Rapping Rabbi song song not long ago. Will download another plus a Labi Sifri number, but I can't play any for a week or two, because as you know, my shows are pre-recorded and I have already got the next three canned up.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for playing the request for our 34th wedding anniversary last month, despite the fact that I omitted my wife's name. A lot of people were probably thinking doubt if he will see his 35th - ha ha.

Anyway Irene and I will be over again next month so we will be e-mailing you for a couple of new requests. Keep up the good work!

Regards Steve

Msg 11

Yes, you're right (although I'm surprised they credited the authors!) .....I think I'm confusing the 'B side' thing with a Small Faces re-working of Green Onions (?)

Hi Suffolk, happy to play your request and will play you more if you send me a list. Can you receive the show via the internet in the UK? If you can, send me a request/s and I will play them for your wife, if you don't forget her name again. Let us know when you are over again and we may be able to meet up for a bite or a pint.

Hi Riddles, the Small Faces didn't do a version of 'Green Onions' unless they did a re-working of it under another name. They did record a number called 'Green Circles' on their 1967 'Small Faces' album though. The only people from that era who recorded 'Green Onions' other than Booker T. & the M.Gs; were, the Ventures - Henry Mancini - Milt Buckner - The Harry James band - and - Mike Bloomfield & Al Kooper. Send me some requests and I'll do my best to play them for you.

Hi Mike .....they had a B side instrumental called 'Grow Your Own' (onions presumably) which has a striking resemblance to the Booker T classic ....(other side of Sha-la-la-la-lee)

Hi Riddles, I do happen to have that track, 'Grow Your Own', but I haven't played it for donkey's years. I had forgotten I had it. I don't think it sounds owt like 'Green Onion's' though. Don't forget to send me some requests.

How about 'Grow Your Own' as a request ...

It has the same instrumentation (Hammond B3 to the fore) as 'Onions' and the same 12-bar chord structure without the 'Help Me' riff ...I'm assuming 'Grow Your Own' refers to onions although with Mr Marriott's well-documented smoking habits it might not!

PS Did you know he was one of Fagin's boys in the original stage-version of 'Oliver' alongside Time-Team's Tony Robinson?

Hi Riddles, will play the Small Faces track for you on October 23rd and I'll play that Stones track, 'Now I've Got A Witness' for you, in a show a week or two later.

Didn't know about the 'Oliver' link, but it doesn't surprise me. As for Tony Robinson's 'Time Team' show, I think it's the best documentary series of that type on television.
