It depends on individuals what you want from Xmas as some Countries might not do it so well.

Personally not bothered about Xmas dinner, so we been in the past to Poland, Hungary where theres Xmas markets, Mulled wine, very cold but different. Done Philadelphia and Las Vegas, Dubai and Abu Dhabi and Istanbul Xmas just gone, weather damp , but lots to see and do. I just love being away at Xmas, but when its for children its a different thing to keep them occupied. I would recommend Las Vegas so much to do and we were very lucky with the weather 2009.

I've known people go to UK holiday camps at Xmas and have a great time, its about how you want to celebrate it and the budget you want to spend.

Personally I am going to Beirut only a 40 min flight from Larnaca, not sure it's good for 9 year old but just across the water.

Racoonchic, we went into a Hotel at Las Vegas and in Krakow Poland we went into a Hotel and on both occasions we did our own thing. If you can do Las Vegas at Xmas time it was brilliant, many families about and lots to see and do, it does not have to be gambling. Went to Hoover Dam, Stratosphere Tower, lots to see. As I said before we didn't do Xmas lunch we had a nice meal in the evening in the Hotel and went out afterwards just to look around at all the Xmas decorations in the Hotels. Depends upon what you want at Xmas time.

In Poland it was Xmas markets etc. but our Hotel did not cater for food so we ate out all the time. Was very cold though.

Try Lake Bled in Slovenia, friendly people, good food and the skiing is not bad either. We spent a great Christmas and New Year there and had a great time. Believe yoiu can fly from Laranca direct.

We have often visited Nice, Monaco and Monte Carlo at Christmas time, everywhere is beautifully decorated and at Monaco there is a Christmas village in the harbour complete with Santa Ski slope, Ice Skating rink. A little further on is Menton which is also very pretty at Christmas time and has many different activities for family holidays.

I'll second msg 23 - Lake Bled is absolutely idyllic and the food is excellent. Hotels are of a high standard as well.
