We listen to either BBC radio 2 or smooth radio via the internet and until today we have had no problem at all. Now we are unable to access these radio stations. Can anyone suggest a solution to our problem please?

Hi astonhilbilly It might have been a localised internet issue May be some members don't realise, but you can get BBC R 1-4 and some others via a 1.8m dish - so if you use one to get SKY, they are on channels 0101 up to 0104 respectively.

Thanks very much for your answers. Mark, no Sky, worse luck - I wish!! We did a complete re-boot of the system and it has come back on now - I'm happy now.

Sorry, I should have made it clear - you don't NEED to pay for SKY to get the BBC ( other other UK) radio channels !

All BBC radio channels are available FREE through the internet. But the BBC have been making a lot of technical changes over the last few years, and the "handshake" is poor and it is slow to connect, you sometimes lose the connection or it "stutters"* * I am technically illiterate, but I gather that this is the connection between the output from the BBCs servers and the imput from the servers (in our case via Turkey) who imput to our computers. As far as the BBC is concerned, only UK Licence Payers living in the UK are legall entitled to access BBC Television. They are investigating ways of enforcing this , and of providing pay TV overseas. Dont shoot th messenger - but I think if I lived in the UK and paid a Licence Fee I would resent people abroad getting it for free at my expense. The BBC is having financial troubles . Recently the British GVt. stopped funding World Service and the Beeb has to.

I dont know how to do links, but if you put BBC in your search box you will be able to access their website which has a wealth of information about policies and technical issues - if you have time and can understand them!

re msg 9 I'm sorry - but what you say has no bearing on the OP's techie problem, and ( currently) the BBC DO NOT geo block requests from servers outside the UK for most radio programs - exceptions being football, F1 etc., ( where there are "rights issues" ....

Re RADIO: It might have done - it could have been one of the periodic failures , and anyway I was interested in other people's experiences with radio reception. As far I understand it the problem with radio (and it has been very slow recently) is volume of traffic rather than blocking but one has to wonder what priorities he BBC gives to problems with overseas connections, particularly in view of their expressed concern about access to the more lucrative television. I just hope we continue to get easy access free radio without it slowing even further and nothing happens to upset that.

This is very interesting because I found out yesterday that i could not access, amazon.co.uk or marks and spencer site, so I tried it using my UK VPN and it was fine, are you on Extend, it seems like they are blocking some sites. I have found when I have been in Turkey that I have not been able to access BBC radio either. Would be interested to know if anyone else on extend is having problems.

St George. Is this for live tv only or is there a facility on there for watching earlier shows like on BBC iplayer?
