Thanks

Do either of these two systems have a HDMi input socket.

Msg.5 Am interested in your question as I was thinking of getting a surround sound set up myself Our TV is set up for everything know to man it would appear and it hadn't dawned on me that the surround sound would have to be compatible. I just thought I could buy one, stick it in a port on the side of the TV and let go!!

I purchased a wireless system, so that I did not have wires everywhere. In saying that this only relates to 2 of the 5 speakers, which we have at the far end of the room. The system has 5 speakers plus a woffer for bass control and includes a dvd player. We absolutely love it, sounds like you are in a cinema, watched a film that had a volcano going off, awesome ! Purchased last week from the Samsung/LG shop on the left just before you get to The Colony Hotel in Girne, they have one upstairs if you want to hear the performance. Not cheap but you get what you pay for, we actually purchased the LG system. Cheaper if not wireles and depending on dvd system you want changes the price i.e blueray or standard dvd.

The surround systems sold here tend to be 'all in one' that have an integrated 'reciever' along with DVD or Blue Ray player. Nothing wrong with these but personally if money was not a problem I would go for a seperate reciever (which I would call an amp) and speakers. Something like this http://www.richersounds.com/product/av-receivers/onkyo/txsr309/onky-txsr309-blk though sourcing one in TRNC not easy.

Tango1 - connection wise a surround sound system would typically sit inbetween a source device like a sateliite box, or DVD player or in my case a PC and the TV. HDMI is the way to connect these days. A surround sound system would typically have multiple inputs so you can connect multiple sources and then a single output to the TV itself.
