I thought JK's was the Bar where all the good willed fundraising Ex-Pats hung out, perhaps it's time for a change of venue ? Black Olive perhaps. What do you think AJ ?..

Well tell us the story then, or is it a secret?

Which bar?

What happened?

Who was involved?

Unfortunately some one thought I was having a go at you on a previous thread but hey ho your presence would be more than welcome at the Black Olive Cafe with or without guitar.

Johnty...i am sure you have a very valid point....unfortunately it is rather too cryptic for us mere mortals and therefore is lost...if you wish to make a valid point then you ought to make yourself a tad more clear...just an innocent oppinion.....(please excuse any spelling mistakes..)

you get told that people only want to ruin a bars reputation, so im not naming it.im sure others will if they already havent.grown women fighting, a women being thrown down steps. god only knows if she is seriously injured.a barman throwing a glass at a person and the landlord fighting with people who tried to stop it. apologies need to be made, but im sure that will not happen, and us not going to that bar again wont bother to many people. the facts.

Time this was closed Mods as this could be damaging to any number of bars in the area as it is putting the blame on a bar that has not been named, only people who should know better jumping on the bandwagon!

Message 14 The owner probably doesn't know about this as he is spending quality time with his parents, who are here on holiday.

And if the founder of this thread does not want to name the bar that is his prerogative, the gossip should stop here in my opinion.

Thank you Jonty for your concern the one side of me is bruised very badly and my ankle is like a ballon and i have a cut to my head...

Re Message 20.. jbond.. Don't complain about your ankle, because NURSE AWFUL will want to challenge your statement and say the swelling and injury must be in your imagination. And if SHE say's it the greatest place in the TRNC it MUST be true. I hope you are able to rest your injury and get better soon and then find a new Bar to frequent. You know it makes sense.

jbond;

That is why one might be better off paying 2 TL more for a bottle of beer and sitting in the harbour. There are thousands of Turkish & Turkish Cypriot Students as well as families/friends who go down there listening to music in dozen bars but not getting pissed out of their heads and causing trouble. I do not remember the last time there was any fighting down there! There are of course many Scandinavian, German, English etc. tourists who also join in the fun every weekend.

Big mistake not complaining to the police! The police would have taken those responsible to the station and kept them overnight until the morning after taking their statements. They would have faced "public disorder charges" the next morning in court - or on Monday (if weekend). If they got rowdy at the station, they would have seen an unpleasant side of TC hospitality

AND expats beware! Such behaviour can label you as "undesirable aliens" with possible cancellation of any residence permits you may have...

It seems its a very troublesome pub in Lapta and if true that a bar person threw a glass at someone and the landlord was fighting it a disgrace

I wasn't there either, so I absolutely agree with everybody's opinion: a disgrace! Never mind the background of the alleged problem, we, the not-being-there-people, know exactly what happened. And that's why we write our stupid comments on this board - hurting another business and its owner. While we don't have a clue. Proud to be British, eh? Proud to be a member of a bunch of sad people, who mind anything that can hurt someone else, eh? Be it a business or a person. Bah.

Its not just a disgrace - for those of who just want to live quietly in a pleasant place in harmony with our Cypriot neighbours in is a tragedy. The Expats used to be liked and respected by the locals. Now the reputation of the British and a good relationship is being ruined by irresponsible ageing lager louts who dont even know where they are and throw their toys out of the pram because it isnt the cheap easy get out they expected, and make exhorbitant demands on the environment and infrastrucutre and insult local sensibilitites.

No wonder the Government are tightening residence reguations and Brit are no long welcome,

Fortunately most Cypriots have the sense to know the difference between those who like and respect the country and the free loaders, but inevitably the innocent suffer for the guilty.

If you are an expat and cant behave decently get out before you are thrown out and put decent people at risk. Some of the British here make me ashamed of my own race.

Brit ex pats spoilt the south - now they are doing the same in the north.

In my experience, as a once a year visitor, Kyrenia will soon be like Aya Napa.

Year on year it is changing for the worse.

My apologies to the decent ex pats who must also be suffering!!

jbond, you should report it to the police, not that they will do anything but if they get many reports of the same sort of thing hapeening at the same bar, then they may just take it seriiously. , It may stop some totally innocent person being really hurt or worse.

I hope your injurires will heal quickly. i am so sorry for what happened to you.

As my Father in Law used to say:

DRINKS IN, WITS OUT !!!!!

This can happen in ANY bar where people drink to excess.

Good sound management procedures and actions is the only way to handle these situations.

All those customers involved should be barred!!

Message 36 BizziLizzi,

Good post and I agree 100% with your comments. I am 'proud to be British' from Northern Ireland who doesn't live in TRNC full time and have seen the 'rough and scruff' that the place seems to be attracting lately. When asked my nationality I now say that I am Irish.

JKs owner may well be enjoying relaxing away from the bar at the moment but he must know of this incident. As for the way his bar staff behaved so people are posting its outrageous

We have family here at the moment & have only just seen this post. Normally I wouldnt respond as it usually just drags up more gossip/speculation, but just to put a few facts straight. Fri eve was to celebrate a family engagement. The people (mainly women) involved in the trouble were invited as guests but had already caused problems inside earlier and were told that they would have to leave if they did not behave (one of them is actually one of the people who has posted on here complaining)! We also found out later that one of the 'ladies' involved had said to the entertainer earlier in the eve "I feel like having a go later and might kick-off". We have no idea what started it as we were inside but Daren was NOT involved in the fighting and was actually trying to stop it. He also has several cuts, bruises & scratches to his face from one of the women when he was trying to break it up. Cont'd...

We also called the police after the incident who then came to the bar as we too are sick of the minority element out here who cause trouble and ruin a perfectly good evening for everyone else. The people involved have also been barred, however as other people have said above, unfortunately some people often drink too much and problems do happen, especially out here and certainly in other bars too.

johnty says "a women being thrown down steps" the woman, jbond says "I was just walking down the steps and I was pushed from behind" could have been the person behind her, was pushed from behind themselves, and it had a knock-on effect - NOT the same thing as "being thrown" - therefore, what else can be believed that has been written in an attempt to destroy a business?

The owner has posted that the main protagonists were women who had already caused trouble, and told they would have to leave if they didn't behave; JKS is being magnanimous not naming one of them who has contributed to this thread (trying to cover her back no doubt) I think he should name her. JKS called the Police themselves - and has banned them, what more can he do? yet SO many here who were NOT there, let alone one who was, yet embellished his account, have been judge and jury, as usual...

No-one needs to "know the procedure" to report an assault, you simply go to the Police, if you are innocent...

Now that you have had your fill of gossip and troublemaking perhaps the matter can be put to rest. I don't suppose for one minute that JK,s is the only bar that has seen drunken lowlifes falling about and causing problems for decent people, the owner has given his point of view ( incidentally i don't go to JK,s) so in my opinion the thread should now be closed by the moderators before any further damage is done.

I feel obliged to answer the above....Yes there were a group of women at the other end of the balcony I was not part of that group. It appears to have started when one of these women threw her shoes at another women who was part of their group. I was sat outside with two other friends when glasses flew over the table we were sitting at. How reckless is that! We then tried to calm the situation down and one of my male friends was attacked by the owner without provocation. His shirt was ripped open by the owner and he suffered scratches and bruising. I tried to calm one of the women down and the owner came over shouting and swearing and in my opinion making the matter worse. For some reason he grabbed my arm. When I asked him to remove his hand his reply was "This is my bar I can do what I like" Finally several people told me that the woman who`s engagement party it was pushed me from behind and down the steps. There was no one else around. This is all I am going to say on the matter.con

Well done to Jk's for their version of events, I do beeive them in what happened and hope that now this matter can be laid to rest and let people get on with their lives, also JK's does not suffere any more further indignation as they have graciously explained what happened.

So let sleeping dogs lie, as a former Bar Owner I know that a group of women are more ill disciplined than a group of men when out on lash, so I sympathise with JK'S.

Hi Turt,

Titas Bramble? We wynyardinians are well ok. Our motto is "If they aint white, its alright"

Drunken behavoir is not right. Certainly we would not countenance it on Wynyard.

Any race creed, colour, aptitude, skill, talent is appreiciated here.

We've had......Kevin Keegan, Alen Sheerer, Paul Gascoign, all children of the universe, and a plethora of

lesser footballing icons.

BUT WE DONT GET DRUNK AND FIGHT!

Members of JCs want to get a grip. The views of a boring Yorkshireman. Someone has to uphold standards.

We are not regulars at JKs but have been a few times and always found it to be popular. We went on Friday as a change for the live music and I have to say that some of the above is complete rubbish. We were unfortunately outside when events happened at at no point was the owner fighting, infact he appeared to be getting bit of a bashing trying to stop it! What I was surpised to find out though from my Cypriot husband was that the people who were fighting were actually the owners and staff from Freddies Bar in Alsancak and apparently the lady in msg 58 is a friend of theres. Why has no-one mentioned that? I think that as bar owners themselves, to go and cause trouble in another bar then walk away is is disgraceful and as my husband says 'much shame on them'. He is Cypriot but after watching the behaviour on Friday he says it is not JK's that we will avoid in future but Freddies.

Whatever happened there that night there are two sides to every story, only the people there know the true story, but as they say there is no smoke without fire, why does booze always bring out the worst in people, if if people can not handle the booze, bottom line is don't drink it. let other people enjoy their night out in peace and quite, if those people want to kick off then do it in your own home not in public making an arse of yourselves.

This thread is now closed.

Enough comment, speculation accusations and allegations on here. The matter is reportedly in the hands of the Police. Anyone who was a witness/participant is completely free to give a full version of events to them.

I agree discussion on this particular incident should be closed. We will never know all the fact and gossip wont help. The owner of the bar in question apparently took the correct action - called the Police and banned the offenders. Lets hope other bar owners follow the example.

What should NOT be forgotten is the harm that this sort of incident does to he majority of law abiding well behaved expatriate population - particularly those of us who have lived here a long time and regard North Cyprus as our home. Turkish Cypriots are on the whole remarkably laid back and tolerant but they reach a point of losing patience and when they do they came down HARD! There is already evidence they are getting p******d off (I dont usually swear but this is the only way to express it.

What can be done to let these louts know their behaviour is unacceptable to their compatriates and will not be tolerated and to reassure the Cypriots of our good will and intentions?
