Hi BlueChalk, Mould is caused by lack of ventilation in your property. We have never had any problems with it in our property because it was aired when we were not living in it on a regular basis. Fitting tricle vents in your windows will help, also leave your curtains open in the winter, so any winter sun can penetrate the rooms. Lots of owners lock their windows and doors and close all their curtains when they leave. The butlers wife

martinD41, When I rented out a property in the UK, which had both the above, the tenants still got mould growing in several rooms. When a specialist visited the property he told them that they were causing the problem themselves by not ventilating the property. Double glazing and blocking up chimneys, not opening windows etc. etc. Where does any steam go to, even breathing causes vapour which causes mould. The butlers wife

Bad ventilation and the spores love the damp. Clean with bleach and try for some sort of ventilation

I bought a fungicide from marshalls and put some in an atomizer spray and sprayed the affected area and the problem went! dependant on the position of the problem it may be better to use a paint brush than spraying.

Hello, The tenant has cleaned it several times but it just kept coming back..so i thought maybe a professional cleaner could offer a better solution. But yes, the reason is also poor build quality. The builder has promised to put 'another' coat of damp proof varnish (? i don't exactly know what it is ?) on the yellow stones as inside that's where the mould comes..yet it has to be cleaned first..

nearly every shop, house I had in uk had damp.As much as bleach would get rid of the mould the actual damp would still be there.De-humidifier was my only obtion, due to uk weather conditions. However,it's a different matter in cyprus, again also due to weather condition,ie.much hotter climate.Ventilation and sun would sort out your problems.

Solutions for the problem of "Black Mould" here in Cyprus (TRNC)can be challenging...Rising Damp, solid wall construction,no Damp Courses, lack of "passive" ventilation, all contribute to the problem. There are a few available solutions ,but these are more in the way of containment rather than cure... 1. coating the sub-floors and walls with a Waterproof Coating ie Vandex. 2 Painting the effected area with Waterproof Paint products. These however only serve to contain the moisture within the fabric of the walls.. By far the best and most effective way to CURE damp is to install an E,O. system..(Electro Osmotic) http://www.timberwise.co.uk/timberwise-for-home/home-property-services/damp-control/damp-proofing/timberwise-electro-osmotic-system/
