Thousands of ex-pats living in Spain could loose their homes as planning permission was only granted at a local level!

So I guess it is happening all over the world, sad.

At the end of the video the man says rent don't buy, so no changes there.

I lived in Spain for 6 years and heard many cases of this or people who bought houses only to find out that the land didnt belong to them. this has been going on there for over 20 years, the Spanish government dont care as they charge 7% tax for buying property, so they just see it as a money maker from the foriegners who buy there.

mY father in law bought a plot in spain and divided up into 3 villas .It was an illegal build when constructed 10 years ago .He then seeked permision from local councils and that was granted ,all in all when he paid his taxes and a few local beers in the bar everthing was ok .

He has now sold up and moved back to the uk .

The Spanish Government just like Cypriot Governments North and South, are also in denial that there is a problem, dismissing the severity of the problem by suggesting only a few buyers have problems.

Wish MEP 's would support the 10000 TRNC buyers like they do Spanish buyers though!

I lived in Fuengirola for 5 years 2000-2005 and had an appartment, I was lucky!

I had alot of people who bought near Mijas coming to my bar and the stories about the Spanish was awful!

If it was not an illegal build then they did 'Urbanisation' where they would make a new road or route for power cables etc and if it went through your land, tough and best bit was they then wanted you to pay for it!!

So all foreign homes come with a risk, Hungary and Bulgaria are also full of scammers etc as stories are now circulating about fraud there too.

Someone described the presenter of 'Home in the Sun' as an airjead on this forum how correct they are and wonder if that programme still exists!

My Brother in Law Tony was Spanish, born in Barcelona. He used to work in the Travel Industry before he married my sister. He used to say that the Spanish hated the British and thought they were dirty (they did not use bedet's) He also stated that when working in Spanish Hotels they were instructed on how to treat the Germans which was much better that the way they treat the Brits.

On one occasion I was in Cala Mayor in Majorca and I was surprised the all the bars/restaurants had all their signs in Spanish and German. So I went in and when the waiter came over he stated that they had German menu's but not English. So I told him it did not matter - just bring me a menu. When he brought it I made him translate all the items on the menu and I ordered a sea food pizza. When it came there was 10 times more on the pizza that any of the English speaking bars.
