I have just received an email from Creditwest advising me that my policy for contents and buildings is soon due for renewal. They said they would have to visit my home and make a list of the contents. Is this normal practice here please? Of course I have emailed back and asked the same question but would like to hear from members here if this is normal practice. Regards, Mrs Snakes.

Some companies do and some don't. I went with someone who didn't as it was too much hassle having someone come to check everything over.

I am with creditwest and yes they now, only once, wish to inspect the contents to preapprove the amounts covered. We must not forget that, not in your or my case, their are fraudulent claims made on insurance companies for over valued contents and non existent contents. It took about 10 minutes of our time. But in the event of a claim you will then rfefer to the list of contents for loss.

We are with HSBC (Axa insurance) and they trust us to tell them the truth... change if you are not happy.

It is good practice but most both here and in UK dont bother , probably depends on how valuable your contents are.

But it is well worth it - if you have an Inventory agreed by both you and the Insurers if you have a claim it will save any arguments and a lot of potential time and hassle. Just make sure they include everything you want them to - which may mean insisting on an English translation.

This happened to us in August just gone, it`s a new policy by Creditwest and nothing to worry about. We called into the branch for an explanation and they told us that some of the policy wording had been changed, and some additions would be added to our new policy that we would not be covered for, two of which are Tsunami, collision to the property by a ship, and landslide unless caused by an earthquake, but seeing as we live half way up a mountain the first two would`nt apply anyway we hope,so an appointment was made and a nice lad called Bekke came up to appraise the property etc and we finished up paying the same as last year for buildings and contents.

Just had the same email,, quite happy for them to do this ,as at least you have proof of the contents that you claim for in the event of a claim arising.

At least it will confirm that what you want covered, will be covered.

Best of luck and regards to Mr Snakes.
