Newspapers reported today that single Uk Pensions will rise £276 pa, joint state state pensions will increase by £441 The biggest increase for many years comes because social security benefits are now linked to the Consumer Price Index, in Sept which soared to 5.2 %. The basic single state pension goes up by £5.31 to £107.46 from April 2012 while the joint state pension increases by £8.49 to £ 171.84 a week Joanne Segars of the Nat Association of Pension Funds said "This gives a bit of extra help to the millions of hard pressed OAP's as Miss Segars said because our state pensions are one of the meanest and most complicated in Europe it's welcomed.

Not if you read the Daily Mail. "However, the Prime Minister’s official spokesman yesterday said that al-though the September inflation figure and April increase were ‘usually’ linked, the ‘actual decision’ will not be made until November or December – fuelling fears that ministers are looking for a get-out clause.

Deniz1, retirement age depends on how old you are, and what gender.

Deniz1....Go onto http://www.directgov.co.uk and use the Pension Calculator under "Calculating your State Pension age"

gives you more accurate information.

Pension can be higher than the quoted figure if you have Serps and you paid into the graduated pension fund.

If you are 60 soon and female you should have been sent all the details of when your pension will be paid. I got mine about 18 months before I turned 60 this Summer.

Womens retirement pensions are being brought in line with mens age ie 65 this I beleive has already been passed in law, as posted above, you can find out when your retirement should come into effect ( male/female) by using the information already posted previously state pension age calculator. Some people got a bit confused it would seem, as the thread was not what you as individuals will receive but what 'The Basic State Pension' is going to be hopefully, if George Osbourne and his boss another Multi millionaire, don't derail this increase as previously mentioned on this thread. Happy for all those widows and other pensioners who are receiving much better than Basic State Pensions, obviously not so great for the unfortunate people who invested heavily in Maxwell's mirror pension scheme I would have thought ?? Wouldn't mind betting his chip off the old block sons are doing extremely well these days though...
