Okay, so I bought some household goods in Lemar two nights ago, using my master card, costing a total of USD 72, only to discover that two transactions had been made totaling USD 144 when my bank gave an alert that I had been debited.

I went back to Lemar, and explained with the receipt of purchase, and the "failed" receipt that apparently didn't succeed.

They said I should get a bank receipt, which may take a while being as I need to get a statement of purchase off my bank which is in monthly quotas, it's not an obscene amount of money, but it's the fact that they don't seem to want to give a shit.

How do I proceed.

Maybe legal action.

Trouble with being reimbursed via your card company is that they make a loss and have to pass it back to customers in charges etc.... it should be repaid by the shop in this case.

This is the drawback on the "no signature" pin only transactions. It is also very difficult if not near impossible to reimburse via the machine over here. We made an error on someones card about 18mths ago and the bank were MOST unhelpful! We asked them to "talk us through" the card reimbursing proceedure and she said you can't do this, only WE can. So in the customers best interest, we just waited for the next day - checked the amount and gave cash back to the customer. So, whilst not defending Lemar, it is often the bank that is difficult, not the retailer.

Lesson learned for us there then. Don't use credit cards in Lemar.

Yes I agree - if they state that the transaction has failed, then you should always insist on them giving you the Void slip before you or they re-enter the card/transaction. They just need bringing up to speed with the correct procedures.
