Am i the only one to notice lately how many children there are in the bars here? last nite was a prime example. in a local pub there must have been a group of 10 parents or more, who didnt come in until gone 10pm, all with children in tow. the kids were from about 5-10 years and running around every where. the parents paid no attention (the landlady even had to ask the parents to control the children at one point) and i could see that other customers who had come out for a quiet drink were not impressed. at point after midnight i heard one of the kids ask if they could go home as they were tired, only to be told to go to sleep some where and stop being a pain. it is ok to take your children out but surely there is some where better for them than a pub at midnight? pubs are usually full of adults, with adult conversations and adult language and no matter what people say I will not be convinced that asleep on a bench or under the table in a bar, is the best place for a child at 1am.

I have to agree with you on that, i've seen it myself though only in TRNC. The EU countries have laws that children are not allowed in bars after 8pm, even in some hotels. I am sorry to say this, but are some of the parents here escaping SS? They certainly are not looking after their children. I did hear of an incident just after the McCann case where a child of 3 went missing in a restaurant. Police called and search laid on. He was found upstairs in the restaurant owner's bed because the poor wee mite was so shattered that he just went to find somewhere to lay his head. BRING BACK THE CANE, I say. The parents didn't have enough of it !!!!!!

Never went to bars when mine was little, never had a babysitter for that matter, and only ever went to child friendly places like, Lego Land, and disney places. Its only now that he's grown up that were able to go to Cyprus and have a break, and he is old enough to come into the bars with us and have a drink. I did notice the "problem" when I was over their. Grouch, you do make me laugh!

While having a quiet pint and game of pool last week in a pub, Two kids appear from nowhere, chase each other round pool table, under the pool table bumping into both myself and my opponent. The thing is, would the parents replace any spilt drinks? I think not :-0 That's when the trouble could start :-( Through no fault of your own!!!!

I agree. There are a couple of bars in Lapta where you could be forgiven for thinking its a creche rather than a bar! Surely if the parents can afford to go out and drink for the evening, they can afford a babysitter once in a while? Msg.9. Thats ok in theory, but in my experience, they dont seem to watch them anyway. Some of the kids run riot while the parents drink on regardless. As scampy points out, its nice to go out and have a break from them - if I wanted an evening with whinging kids, I'd stay in with my own!

Paul and Paula at Kings Bar have the solution that is fair in my eyes ,after i believe 9 or 10 oclock at night any children have to use the outdoor seated area and vacate the bar,as my partner and i have 6 children between us we do like to socialise with them but appreciate that there should be a watershed especially for unruly and unnattended children and have no problem adhering to this although 4 of our brood are 16 to 21 and better behaved than their parents !

But is it right for children to be in bars after 9pm surely they should be in bed especiallly if there is school the next day. My experiance in some bars here is that there is a lot of durken people should the kids be subject to this. I know the parents are having a good time but it is no difference to england kids have to be in bed.

Can we have an answer to msg 8. Were the culprits Cypriot or British. Yes, it is of importance in the sense that Cypriot families do go out late but usually the children are under control and in the 3 years we have been here have never had a problem with them in a bar or restaurant. On the other hand British families let their children run riot at all hours of night.

When we are over with our two youngest 9 and 11, they are neither allowed to run riot,or left unattended and as they are on hols from school in UK the bedtime differs dramatically from our bedtime rules during school time and or weekends in the UK.If one of the children shows signs of tiredness then this is our time retire, however due to their skill at pool and PSP, DS , Etc they can generally outstay us ! PS we have never subjected our children to durken people, we try to keep ourselves to ourselves ! PPS Sorry two serious posts on the trot is gettting to me !!!!

Also a pain are those parents who allow their kids to run amok in aircraft pulling seat backs, screaming at the tops of their voices and running up and down the aisle banging into people. Once asked a guy most politely to control his kids and got the reply "suppose you havent got any kids of your own." I again politely replied that none of my 5 kids had ever been allowed to annoy other people when on an aircraft. Went quiet then!

Good for you breezyboy. That's the trouble now days, parents are not taking responsibility for their children. They just let them run about like animals that have been let off a leash. I would'nt frequent a place that had lots of children running around and yes I did have children and now have grandchildren.

I have children and I take them out with me only on a Saturday night, the rest of the week they are in bed by 8 o clock. I have no family here and would not be happy with leaving them with someone that I don't know very well. The reason we moved here was the easy going way of life. When I was young children were not allowed in pubs and were left outstide with a packet of crisps, surely it's best to have your children where you can see them, the odd late night is not going to hurt them. My children have never and never will behave like animals lets off a leash. On the other hand I know lots of parents that can't wait to get rid of their children and bung them of with a babysitter, I think thats worse.

Millen I understand what your saying as I have 2 daughters of my own I also took them out sometimes when they were little, but they had ti sit down and do as they were told, or they were took home Otherwise we would take them to a childrens theme pub so they had a kids area, not run around ruining everyone else's peacefull night, The only thing is now they are teenager's that seems to have gone out the window Susie x

Most of the pub/restruants here in uk have a 9pm watershed clearly displayed in the places I go to,but some of the newer places opening are specificly for families so they have different rules.I would assume that in the TRNC there must be some sort of legislation about kids in bars, if there is then owners are not obeying it and for one reason, stop the kids you stop the parents, hence no income and they dont want that do they!!!

i don't see the problem with kids in bars as long as the kids are behaving. who would take their kids to somewhere there are loads of drunks with foul language anyway? you would be selective, especially when your kids are with you.
