Just to let you know that following a routine phone call we were advised that our flight to Manchester Airport on 9th November had been cancelled because of extra costs. We were also informed that all flights to Manchester had been cancelled

If we hadn't made this call I doubt very much that Cyprus Airways would have notified us so please check your bookings before you set off .

Cheers

Not nice - if this is the case don't leave it late as other flights might well be full.

Wasn't there another link on this a couple of weeks ago? I think it said that Cyprus Airways were cancelling the Manchester flights from Oct. and only doing the Christmas flights. It might be worth looking back to find it.

This may be the case but they should have let us know and they didn't.

When challenged they said they left a message on my mobile but this was not the case.

Its a bit of a shambles to say the least.

Just entered Manchester and cancelled in the google search facility of this web site..

Tom, would it not be BETTER to just turn up and then the airline has to get you to your destination under EU law ?

I thought it was well known that you can't get text messages from the south and vice-versa. So Cyprus Airways should have known this and let you know some other way.

Hi,

6M Mark asks if it is not better to just turn up so that CY then have to look after you on the day.

The simple answer is NO it is far from being a good idea to do this if you can arrange to be rebooked/rerouted in advance.

Passengers with confirmed bookings for that day's travel will always have priority over those being rebooked, so you may end up having to wait several days before you can complete your journey. I have witnessed this first hand at Dublin Airport during the ash cloud and snow disruption last year.

Airlines work on the principal that is better to have a small number of very pi$$ed off people than a large number of fairly pi$$ed off people.

Get rebooked as soon as you can.

Mark Msg 5 & Dermot Msg 10 - Two thoughts

1] If the airline is not flying they will probably not have any rep at the airport. So who will be there to fight for your rights with?

2] Unless you re-book early there will not be enough seats on the remaining flights no matter what the price. BTW It is a popular myth that the airlines up the price in the case of troubles, that is not needed by them as they already have very high prices set for their higher "classes" of tickets.
