I've been informed the seed for the Cyprus potato originated in Scotland. I think the source for this info. came from The Weakest Link but can't be sure.

The seed potatoes for ' Cyprus Potatoes ' come from Ireland, or they did in the 50's and 60's. I know this because I picked and bagged a lot of them on my brother in laws farm in the County Derry/Londonderry. My back still aches when I think about it.

Re: Msg 1, "They originated in Holland , DC will be pleased..." So did the most of the commercially grown potatoes in today's Europe, which are sold worldwide, as you undoubtedly would be pleased to know.

Re: Msg6, At least I'm not incorrect about the Dutch potato varieties and the Dutch supremacy in potato breeding, only in how pleased you are to know about it.

Try to keep up YORG, we were discussing the original Hybridisation of "Spunta" potatoes , which is Dutch in origin ,not the particular growing areas..

Carndi, I always thought that as well. Often wondered though why there are no variety of potatoes, such as Comber's/ Kerrs Pinks/ Queens/ Maris Piper's or my favourite Roosters. Perhaps the soil isn't right for them.
