Help Those With Cancer Association/Tulips have negotiated a special rate of 200TL with 7 hospitals in the TRNC (2 in Lefkosa, 2 in Girne and 3 in Famagusta) up to the 20th November 2011.

The tests will include: Chest x-ray, upper and lower abdomen ultrasound, mammogram, urine and stool test, culture tests, complete blood count, smear test and pathology, breast ultrasound, Gynaecology Examination and Internal Medicine.

In addition to the above, Near East University is offering a Lung Graphy for 100TL. This will take a 3D look at your lungs as opposed to a normal 1D X-ray but the choice will be yours.

If any further tests are required as a result of those listed above, then the cost will not be covered by the 200TL you have paid.

The Association has arranged this special price (normally this would cost about 700TL), however, they are asking that anyone who wants to take up this offer should make a donation to the charity.

Well done to Tulips. I went to this at the Near east last year. Had to wait a long time to get everything done but it was worth it. Everyone(staff and other participants))were so kind and helpful.

I am sorry, this should have continued on from message one and makes things a little clearer....

All the hospitals that are involved in the health check will have a receipt book from the Association and therefore when you do make your donation (and please be generous) you will receive an official receipt for your contribution. All monies raised by the Association go to helping someone with Cancer……

If you are interested in this exceptionally good offer, please email us with your full name, telephone number and email address at: tulipscarole@yahoo.com, we will then send you a letter which you MUST take to the hospital with you along with your donation. This letter will have all the contact details you will require to make an appointment.

Has this anything to do with the other 200tl Womens Healthcare Offer that I've signed up for (hopefully) in connection with Medikent/Cyprus Life. Or am I getting confused?

Hi Tango1,

If you signed up with nurseawful (Chris) then she would have organised your appointment.

The Cancer Campaign was organised by Tulips hence the price of 200TL and does include Medikent/Cyprus Life which is why nurseawful has asked that if anyone attending these tests can donate to Tulips.

Hope this helps clears things up

Wallysend,

Unfortunately this cancer campaign has nothing to do with the tests you require for residency but in answer to your question ... I honestly don't know.

Wonderful what has been arranged! Hope I might hav e a go! But Wallysend I am pretty certain this cannot be used for residency. That is a separate package . Do double check on it because I could be wrong, but I am pretty certain that no x ray, blood test, urine test, stool test, etc which is done for one's own personal reasons is accepted by the government for residency.

Perhaps we could ask Immigration for our residency results and use them for our personal use in health-screening processes? (Tongue in cheek)!

Top value and I say that as a male. Can Tulips organise a similar male package - prostate, lung, stomach/colon etc? If so, here's one punter.

In answer to your query over whether we are going to do a Mens Health Check, yes and it will probably be about March next year.

We will advise everyone of this once the details are ready.

I have just learnt that NEU Hospital, Lefkosa have decided that all women's cancer tests will be 300TL as they want everyone who participates in this campaign to have the 3D Lung Graphy therefore there will not be a 200TL package available from this hospital.

All the other hospitals involved with this campaign will continue to offer the full package listed above at 200TL without a 3D Lung Graphy.

Please accept the Association's apologies for any confusion.

This is a fantastic offer as I have just had a mammography and ultrasound done at NEU and it cost 240TL so to get all this for 300TL is fantastic.

Well done Tulips.

Heaven,

Please check my msg 24, I suddenly got a call this afternoon telling me that NEU were only interested in doing a 3D Lung Graphy as they believe it showed more than a basic x-ray and therefore have decided not to run with the 200TL but only the 300TL.

I hope you are ok with this if not you are more than welcome to cancel the appointment and go to another hospital as the 6 are offering the package at 200TL

I agree it is a fantastic price that the Association has negotiated and if you did not go to NEU you could have all the tests done for 200TL!!!

You do have a choice as to whether you want to pay 300TL and go to NEU or whether you want to go to another hospital at 200TL, your choice.

Hey lovely Scoobydoo, can you explain what this new lung thingamy does for 100tl. I am sure some ladies might want to have it, but equallyt sure that others may hesitate when they are getting so much for just 200tl elsewhere. Personally unless I know what extra value there is, I will go for the 200tl, but if convinced of the value of this new lung test, I might change my mind.

And thanks for all the terrific hard work you and all the others are for arranging thiis for we ladies.

I have had this explained to me as:

A 3D Lung Graphy - This will take a picture of your lungs from the

1. front

2. back

3. sides

it is a more effective of viewing the lungs as opposed to a normal x-ray (this is 1D) which only takes a front picture of your chest.

If there are any problems with your lungs then this examination will highlight any problems.

I just wanted to clear up a few queries we are receiving.

On the document that we send out to you, you will find a list of hospitals where you can go for your tests. Everything is included in the 200TL or 300TL if you go the Neu Hospital (as they are charging for the 3D Lung Graphy, details of what this includes in msg 36).

There is also a section on the document that lists 2 laboratories where you can have a full blood count, stool, urine and ESR(sedimentation) test for 50TL. This is an extremely good price and if any ladies who have recently had their mammograms, smears etc and are not due for another for a while, they still have an opportunity to have their full blood count, urine, stool and ESR tests for on 50TL.

Once again, all we ask is that you make a donation to Tulips for arranging this campaign.

Any queries, please email: tulipscarole@yahoo.com

Teresa,

I am so sorry to hear of your news, I can't even begin to imagine how you and your family are feeling at the moment.

Thank you for 'thinking' about other people and helping us raise awareness of this campaign, we really appreciate it.

It amazes me that when I talk to people about this campaign, I still get comments of; I am only 36yrs, I feel so healthy, I don't smoke or drink and eat healthily, I'm scared if they find anything etc...

Well, I fit in all these categories (except I am in my 40's) plus one more - not one person in my family has had cancer, I am the first!

This is a disease that can be 'silent' for so many years and what many people still do not realise is that the earlier you catch it the more likely you are to recover from it, therefore it is so important that everyone looks after their own bodies and their lives, as the saying goes 'you only have one chance so seize it with both hands'

Please consider this if you are still 'thinking' of joining

Well said Sue, none of us ever believe it could be me...... This is not about scaremongering, its about awareness and keeping your body safe. The earlier caught the better, much more chance of surviving and overcoming this indiscriminate disease.

Help us to help someone with Cancer...... - please donate generously when you have your health check.

Had the tests done at Girne Ozel Hospitals. Excellent staff - made appointment on Tues, had tests on Wed and went back this morning for the results. Tests highlighted 2 health issues (nothing serious) but was given prescription and have to return.

Thank you to everyone who have made this possible. For peace of mind 200tl is not a lot to pay.

Ladies,

We have had a fantastic response to this campaign and it doesn't end here, it goes onto the 20th November 2011.

We have had a few comments passed onto us which may be of help for those yet to attend their appointments:

1. If your appointment is not in the morning, ring the hospital and check at what time of day they require you to do a urine test. A couple of ladies have had appointments in the afternoon and have been asked to go back the following morning with their urine samples as they have had to eat during the day.

2. We have been asking everyone to donate to the charity at the hospital of their tests however a couple of you have had difficulties when the hospital say they do not have a receipt book. Unfortunately it is Saturday morning now and we are unable to address this until Monday.

Just a thought, if anyone has encountered a problem donating at any of the hospitals then if you do wish to donate both Carole and I will be at:

Karakum Lemar this morning from about 10.30 to 12'ish selling raffle tickets outside

Karaoglanoglu Lemar this afternoon from 1pm to 2.30'ish

Pine Bay Car Boot Sale tomorrow (6th) all morning

We both carry official receipt books so we can take your donation for you if this will be of help.

You will spot us easily as we are wearing our Tulips T-Shirts!

We are still getting requests of 'am I too late?'

The answer is NO!

This goes on to 20th November 2011.

Please remember it is Bayram so it may be a little difficult getting an appointment until after Bayram finishes.

We have been in touch with both the Association and NEU Hospital and can confirm that even if your appointment is after the 20th November 2011 (which is the official closing date of this campaign), you will still only be charged 300TL because you have booked before the closing date.

I have emailed Sue and as she requested sent the names/contact details of my 3 friends and myself for appointnments but not heard back from her at all. Now reading through this thread it seems that it will cost another TL100 (TL300) if your appointment is after the 20th November which is the closing date? Is this deliberate to get more money for the tests? Can you confirm this please.

I will also email Sue directly.

Shel56,

Re your msg 97, I did receive your email re your friends details and replied back to you on the 9th November 2011 at 12.45hrs, I am assuming from what you have written above that you have not received this so I will do it again this afternoon.

If you are still waiting to hear from us, you could have emailed us again.

Let me try and clarify a few things:

1. The cost of the tests is 200tl in all hospitals with the exception of the NEU Hospital which is charging 300tl. This has been from the start.

2. NEU have been overwhelmed with the response from this campaign and they have agreed that as long as you book your tests BEFORE 20th November 2011 you will be charged 300tl irrespective of what date your tests are.

There is no 'deliberate way to get more money for the tests' this has been the case from the start!!!

Please read msg: 93 again

Absolutely spot on Sue, we have made it clear right from the start that the costs have always been 200TL for all hospitals apart from NEU, who charge 300TL because of the extra 3D Lung Graphy test.

The men are now being offered a cancer health check as well BUT this is ONLY being offered by NEU and includes the 3D Lung Graphy, and the cost is 300TL.

Just to clarify things, the men cannot have this special offer, which has been set up by Tulips, at any other hospital other than the NEU.

This morning the NEU have confirmed that for this campaign only:

1. They will provide (for free) your reports in English if you ask for them BUT YOU MUST TELL THEM AT THE BEGINNING (ON THE DAY OF YOUR APPT) THAT YOU DO NOT want them in Turkish. If you say nothing then you will get them in Turkish and will have to pay for them to be put in English.

2. If you have had any blood tests or ultrasounds in the 2 months prior to your appointment, please take them along with you to your appointment so that they have something to compare with.

3. These tests will take most of the day.

4. Please do not eat before your blood tests are done on the day of your appointment.

In addition to the tests above in msg 1, I can now confirm that you will also have an examination at the ENT department this will include checking for nodes, lesions and masses. These additional tests are included in the 300TL.

Don't know whether I missed anything from above but I have some questions I wonder if you could clarify for me:

1) you mentioned the campaign is only until 20th Nov. I'm booked in for 29th with Cyprus Life. Is that ok, will it still be at 200tl?

2) at Cyprus Life will I get the same tests that would be done at the other hospitals (apart from the 3D lung graphy mentioned for NEU)? What about the examination mentioned at the NEU ENT department to include checking for nodes, lesions and masses. Does this also only apply to NEU or are all hospitals doing this?

3) there's mention that there's a 50tl charge to have full blood count, stool, urine and ESR tests done. If the answer to (1) is 200 then, I've also been told to take stool and urine samples with me, will I be told I have to pay an extra 50tl for these tests when I arrive?

Hi Pippie,

As mentioned above:

1. You must book your appt before the end of November 2011 to qualify for the special price irrespective of when you receive your appt, you will be charged either 200tl (or 300tl if you chose NEU)

2. At Cyprus Life you will get the basic tests, the 3D lung graphy and ent tests are purely being carried out at the NEU and this is within the price of 300tl.

3. As stated previously, the 50TL price is purely for those ladies who DO NOT NEED a mammogram or smear test and therefore only want the lab tests doing. They can attend one of 2 labs that are participating in this campaign. If you go to one of the hospitals listed then you will get all these tests done within your payment of 200tl (or 300tl if you attend the NEU)

I hope all is clear.

Have you received and email from us directly as I cannot tell who you are without a surname.

If you have any further confusions, please email us on

Good morning ladies,

This campaign finishes this weekend and knowing Cyprus (as we all do) it would be best to book your appointments before the weekend (some hospitals seem to have skeleton staff on at the weekends).

You only have a few more days to get this organised so please, if you want to participate then email us asap on:

tulipscarole@yahoo.com

And to cover ourselves; we have emailed EVERYONE who has emailed us so if you have not received an email, then please check out your spam box, if there is nothing there - get back in touch immediately.

Thank you to everyone that has supported the campaign so far.

We have still been getting requests today (Thursday) for the ladies campaign which is great but please be aware that although the campaign finishes on the 20th November 2011 which is sunday, you may have difficulties getting appointments over the weekend as some hospitals work on skeleton staff.

Please, if you are interested, get in touch with us asap as there really is only Friday to book your appointments to qualify for these special prices.

It is now Friday afternoon and we have had another 8 emails today from ladies interested in this campaign. We have answered all emails so please check your spam box, if nothing has come through get back in touch with us as you really only have this afternoon to make your appointments.

As said above, most hospitals have skeleton staff at the weekend and you will have very little chance of making an appointment during saturday and sunday so we suggest you do it this afternoon.

Can I just add that if anyone is wanting just the blood tests etc., you don't need an appointment at Erduran Laboratory in Girne ( behind Lemar at Karakum ) I was told just to go there and get the tests done - which I did this morning. Obviously you have to go before the offer finishes on Sunday. Thanks Carole & Sue for arranging this special deal.

Went to Erduran on Friday to ask about having tests done. No problem and no appointment required so returned today, Saturday at 09.30 and results were collected at 12.30. Nothing sinister found and I was told that the results were 'normal'. Peace of mind for 50tL. Also gave donation to Tulips and I was given an official receipt.

Thank you to everyone who organised this.
