I will be very suprised if many people go to see him, but who know's !

I am not anti Chubby Brown , In fact i think we have a video tape of his somwhere that a friend gave me,

People's tatses differ, But what did amaze me the very first time I heard him the audience did not laugh at his jokes half as much as they laughed at F word,

I found that pathetic, I am no prude (far from it) and there are times when the joke is not the same without the language,

It will be interesting to see how well it is supported, Hope the people who go enjoy it.

Chubby Brown lives about five miles from us in North East England

A magnificent home with acres of beautiful gardens.

I saw him live once at a stag do (no women allowed)

You can keep him in The TRNC if you wish. Ladies you have been warned.

Malpas must have had a taste transplant to promote a foul mouthed "comedian" like Chubby Brown, he is about as funny as a bout of 'flu (imho)

Some people are never happy.... if you don't like Chubby Brown, or his type of humour, then don't go and see him! Simples! Why do people find it necessary to comment on things that they don't have any interest in. Guess some of you don't have enough things to keep you occupied.

Many thanks for all the comments....good and bad!

Its important to realise; to secure entertainment such as the names mentioned above....(funny those two names should be mentioned!), requires the ability to assure all Acts (which is a very closed nit community) that the 'TRNC' gig is a good one.

This means supporting Acts of this calibure;.........like it or not, Roy 'CHUBBY' Brown is one of the most successful comedians on the international comedy circuit........DVD sales (Produced by UNIVERSAL PICTURES INC) in the Millions clearly back this up!

If he is not to your taste, which is quite understable, instead of outright condemnation, why not simply refrain from posting negitive comments and instead post your support of the future potential of seeing Acts of this calibur in the TRNC for the first time!

Lee Evans and Billy Connelly support their friends!!!!!!!

Keep the comments coming guys!!!!

From what is written above I guess it is not for me, but would you ask him where I can get a suit made up like the one of his web page. Being a bit of an extrovert, I think I would like one. His suit of many colours appeals to me, but I guess I won't like the colours of his jokes. Oh and I would agree with one of the postings in so far as many comedians on TV, radio etc are quite clean, but put them in a private situation and the air turns blue.

Hi Passionflower

Thankyou for your feedback...positive and negitive input is always taken on board.

Ken Dodd is one of the many names under discussion at the moment.

As stated the circuit is very closed nit, although Roy'Chubby'Brown may not be to everybodys tastes, hopefully the event is well supported thereby opening the floodgates to many of the names listed above.

Keep the suggestions coming.

I have to say that over the years I have seen Chubby Brown many times and he has been very funny, however the last time we went I did not find it as funny as previously and I really don't think this is his fault. What I put it down to is the declining standards on TV these days with pretty much all comedians except the aforementioned Ken Dodd using gutter language on television. This means that whereas Roy Chubby Brown used to be unique he no longer is and if you want to listen to humour containing profanity you only need to switch on the TV and watch any of the comedians on Mock the Week for example.

So in conclusion I would have to agree with an earlier post that the swearing was probably funnier than the jokes but not any more.

But good on the Malpas for trying to bring headline acts to North Cyprus.

There has been a lot of disappointment here concerning big names appearing in TRNC then backing out because of pressure from the South, smeone like Chubby Brown would not be intimidated by them and probably would tell them to OFF as he doesn't give a S*@T.

I've heared that Ken Dodd does a really good show and stays on stage for about 3 and a half hours! My Mum went to see him and had to leave before the end as it went on for that long. She said he was great though.

I agree with RealCyprus. Although, like a lot of people, Roy Chubby Brown is not my cup of tea (too much swearing) he is indeed popular with a large number of people. People should refrain from criticising this incentive. If people don't like him they don't have to go and see him. Simples!

How about John Bishop or Lee Mack? They're quite popular.

Oh well, will just have to accept that the KKTC is becoming more British that GB. For goodness sake why did people move here, please look at yourselves and try and embrace the KKTC life, otherwise we will become just like the defunct TV series Ëldorado" Roy Chubby Brown and Full English Breakfasts will soon be the norm!!!

With no sign of KKTC Culture or cuisine to be found anywhere!!

Worth noting...

Revealing a nasty, bitter, hate-filled man for what he is, 17 January 2008

Author: EckyThump from United Kingdom

Being a lifelong comedy fan, when a buzz started building around the frequently bootlegged live recordings of a certain Roy 'Chubby' Brown in the late eighties and early nineties, with people whose opinions I'd come to trust openly declaring that he was the funniest stand-up comedian they'd ever heard, I naturally wanted to check the phenomenon out for myself. My chance came when Brown's first live video was released, featuring his end-of-the-pier show at Blackpool.

I turned the tape off, ten minutes in, absolutely disgusted with what I'd witnessed. I'm no prude - I love Peter Cook and Dudley Moore's Derek and Clive records and the early movies of John Waters, as well as the more 'off-colour' moments of the Monty Python team, but watching Brown's act is like watching a particularly nasty schoolboy who's just learnt to swear.

... Seeing him, dressed up as a court jester, spouting the foulest of language to an audience of mooing, knuckle-dragging drunken louts without the merest trace of genuine wit, funny lines or actual comic invention, made me weep for the future of comedy - almost two decades down the line, we're reaping the unfortunate results of Brown's popularity, with the hideous Ricky Gervais and the twerpish Jimmy Carr playing the "ironic" bad taste / homophobia / sexism / racism cards for all they're worth.

So what of this documentary? We learn that Brown (real name Royston Vasey) was pretty much a loser in life from day one, with spells in prison and borstal behind him. He was even rejected when he tried to join the Army because he was, by his own admission, "thick". Taking up comedy, Brown was a fairly respectable performer at first, even appearing on children's television (an all too brief clip is shown), only piling on the obscenities when his agent suggested it.

The self-styled 'rudest comedian in Britain' would never, his agent reckoned, get on telly, but he might make some serious money. Nobody ever went broke appealing to the lowest common denominator, after all.

Brown's heyday, as the docu explains, was the 1990s, when comedy was supposedly "the new rock and roll", comedy videos were selling shed-loads and people would pack out provincial theatres to see their portly, middle-aged, avuncular heroes doing their thing. With Bernard Manning, Jimmy Jones and Mike Reid also along for the ride, Brown was as big as the biggest rock star - for a few years at least. But this docu catches up with him in 2007, and times have changed. He no longer plays to sold-out venues, and even his hardcore followers - the Blackpool holidaymakers - are beginning to stay away. There is a reasonably touching sense of Brown coasting on former glories as he reveals that he won't get paid unless a theatre sells a certain number of tickets and reminisces about the goo

good old days of a decade-and-a-half ago. But any residual goodwill is shattered by the scenes that follow.

Brown tries, and fails, to silence some drunken hecklers, and his live show spirals out of control. He blusters off the stage, and, once safely in the wings, begins cursing the audience (in the coarsest possible terms) to the waiting cameras. Is this really the best we can expect of a seasoned stand-up, who learnt his trade on the notoriously tough working men's club circuit? He grumbles, makes excuses and even laments that he was building up to some "new material", as if he thinks that will excuse the obvious fact that he was derailed by some playful catcalling.

It smacks of a man who has grown lazy and lost contact with the crowds he plays to.

Later in the film, we witness a brief but telling glimpse of Brown's explosive temperament (remember, this is a man who was arrested for beating the living daylights out of a pathetic heroin addict who dared to bait him in the presence of "women and children") during a traffic altercation, we see his opulent but tasteless house, bedecked with posters for his own films and stuffed with joke-books penned by superior talents, we see him working on a typically rotten stand-up routine, we hear his repulsive views on race relations and the immigration explosion, we see his close friends and acolytes (who bring new depths to the derogatory term "hangers-on"), we see him on the Frank Skinner show being called a fat racist bastard (no arguments there!) and trying to explain why he didn't "lamp him" in retaliation, we hear him blurt and gabble half-apologies in an attempt to convince us that he's not all bad

...(some chance), we see him entertaining a couple of fans backstage (it must have taken some serious digging to find a pair who were halfway respectable) and we see him follow a visit to the gym with a sausage sandwich, which he describes as "smelling almost as good as pussy". No doubt this was meant to be amusing; you can almost hear the tumbleweeds roll by.

In short, we see him in his true colours, as a prematurely bitter and pathetic soon-to-be-has-been who can't - or won't - comprehend the fact that the public fascination with morbidly obese misogynists dressed like a hippie version of Toad of Toad Hall is coming to a long-awaited close.

That just about sums up what I've always thought about him. Never thought he was remotely funny and quite honestly, you'd have to pay me to see him and then I wouldn't go

With regards the likes of Lee Mack and John Bishop, I hardly think either of them would be tempted to a one night stand in NC. As far as I know, they're still filling arenas in the UK. Roy Brown, on the other hand, I would imagine is grateful for small mercies.

Commendations to Mike Armstrong for continuing to bring comedy to the TRNC. Keep at it Mike. As we learned together: you really can't please everyone all the time but it mustn't keep us from continuing to try!

Msg 58:

For many, yes.

So why knock it ? Indeed why knock other efforts? Positive contributions welcome. Negative: not so much.

Some points you might want to ruminate upon. Or not, as the case may be.

1. I am Cypriot. When did you become the arbiter of my culture?

2. How does Roy Chubby Brown, Bonfire Night or any other event negatively impact life and culture in Cyprus?

3. Why should I, as a Father of 4 young children, feel embarrassed about trying to earn a living? Or would you rather I sign up to that fantastic British tradition of throwing my family on to welfare?

4. Multiple exclamation marks suggest poor literacy - so please don't "innit" me.

Well done Mike - if I didn't have the Panto that evening I'd be along. That probably won't meet with "Cocklebay"s approval either - so I'll enjoy it all the more!

For a man who has been heard to call the stall holders at the Saturday market "Pikeys" I find your comments in message 59 a little bit Rich.

No problems with the panto etc, but I have lived here for over 7 years, and I am really saddened by the erosion of the Turkish Cypriot culture and way of life, answer 3 I have no problem about you earning a living, I spent my entire life in employment never ever embracing the welfare culture! Now I try to enjoy my retirement in my chosen country! Oops sorry about the exclamation marks!

Not once have I referred to our stallholders as that. I reserve that term of endearment for myself and Mr Ian Long. As you'd know if you'd heard me first hand rather than tittle-tattle. By the way, how I choose to address Ian and myself informs my comments in msg 59 in what way precisely?

Well done Mike - sorry this thread has been hijacked by the 1 percenters and me. It should of course be about:

Pathetic.

Again, how do your feelings towards my Father in any way moderate your slanderous and defamatory comments towards me or mitigate your extremely limited understanding of Cypriot culture and your negative appraisal of others' efforts?

How Sad to know that the Malpas in my view has had to stoop to gutter level to bring foul mouth acts in for entertainment.

It is no wonder more and more locals are looking down on the Brits more and more each day with this sort of act entertaining it is hardly surprising !!

I for one rated the Malpas as a great hotel for families and for all previous entertainment in the past.

Not any more I shall certainly give the Malpas a wide berth from now on.

So what you are saying pipie is that the Malpas should only attract entertainment that you agree with in order to get your custom?

Very narrow minded.

What would you do if there was a show on at the Malpas the following week that you would really like to go to?

Not go out of spite?

Review taken from: http://www.australianstage.com.au...........MAY 2011

On the evidence of tonight’s standing ovation Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown is still one of Britain’s best loved comedians. What you see is what you get with ‘Chubbs’ and his predominantly English audience like what they see and hear. His shows are infamous for being blue, sexist and racist and tonight he’s on the top of his game. Under the patchwork suit is a man who understands his audience and knows how far he can push his sometimes offensive material. Beneath the flying helmet is an intelligent, comic mind that’s been honed over the last 43 years to deliver jokes in a shock and awe style.

The controversial nature of Chubby’s act has attracted accusations that his comedy style is outdated. Not a bit of it. The audience is rolling in the aisles, laughing along with merry japes and musing on Madonna, Jordan, illegal immigrants, sex in all its forms and Chubby’s various exploits with the women he loves to hate.

Songs such as Living Next Door to Alice, (who the fxxx is Alice) and Dolly Parton’s Txxx have that sing-along quality that has the crowd singing and shouting at the appropriate chorus parts.

Admittedly, Chubby is outrageous but he is also hilarious. He’s not the comedian for anyone who is easily offended. But if you like your comics witty, delightfully demented, politically incorrect, cruelly observant and hysterically funny then don’t miss Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown. It could be your last chance.....

Alwas good to see reviews from both sides of the fence!

Keep the comments coming.

I've seen Chubby live. He's funny, his profanity is funny, he's like the late, great, Bernard Manning, he's become a millionaire by being outrageous. Does anyone think that this is what he is. He does it to earn money. How many men did John Wayne shoot? It's an act, that's all. He wouldn't earn a bean on TV, that's why he isn't on TV. If we all liked the same things, or followed the narrow minded, there'd be one song, one film, one picture, one joke, one of everything. Get a life, let those who differ, differ. The only unique thing that would make the world better is, one religion.

T

ps CB, you come across as a self important prig, you are funnier than the other CB, or sillier

Bobby Davro was playing in Llandudno the last I heard (but that was about 4 years ago!)

I've never seen a topic giving an advertisement of a forthcoming event cause such spiteful arguments. Why are people so nasty to each other? I can't believe people are arguing over this.

I, like a lot of people, really don't Like Chubby Brown but well done to the Malpas for bringing him to the TRNC because lots of people DO like him. No-one is being forced to go and see him...while other people will be delighted at the chance. Good for them!

Its nice to see someone making the effort to bring International acts to the Island , lets hope there is more to come, Clean acts or bad language acts some will love them and some wont, let the numbers on the door prove the point, i hope it's a sell out for ya.

Good to see so many different opinions, all of which (well most!), are taken on board.

Continued support is the only way to ensure we have the ability to book acts such as those mentioned above.

jimchris09, I agree that as this is a forum all are entitled to an opinion, I notice on reading some of the comments that those who would like to see Chubby appear to be saying that they would personally be happy however those that are against him appear to be trying to advise the neutrals against going to see him.

I don't care either way but thought it was worth mentioning that it looks like the nays want to push their opinions where as the yays seem to be leaving it up to the individuals, this could be why people seem to be against your comments, food for thought.

In my time I have seen all kinds of comedians and CB in the 80's was an act that was not shown on TV.

I have seen him live and if you like lashings of the F & C words then he is your man. Personally I found him unfunny and he has become a rich man out of it. Great buisness man.

Perhaps after his appearance we can have some feed back and see what the audience felt.

Wyn, if you put a flying cap and glasses on you could be his double !!

Re message 60, Cocklebay.

Simple answer is to move back to the UK, maybe you would be less likely to moan? (Doubtful though.)

Lambousa Gordon:

I personally think that the bonfire night is a great idea, a first for North Cyprus, maybe the likes of Cocklebay should take pride of place at the top of the bonfire?

RealEntCyprus:

Will there be anywhere else to collect tickets from apart from the Malpas? Can't wait, we are all looking forward to it, will be a good night! It's great that someone is bringing world famous acts to North Cyprus!

Re message 98

That's the thing with Roy Chubby Brown, you know what to expect, you either like him or you don't and if he isn't your cup of tea then don't go. Simple. But I personally don't think that £30 is to much; to buy tickets in the UK are around the same price. Plus the £30 also covers all alcohol. I still think that's a fair price even if you don't like a drink.

Maybe not if you compare it to 10TL to see "Tom Jones" at Caesars Resort!

Chubby Brown is not my idea of entertainment, I prefer the likes of Peter Kay, but life would be very boring if we all liked the same.

For those of you who enjoy the humour of Chubby Brown, I hope you have a great night, for the others, well nobody is forcing you to go to see him, live and let live!

Jamestalbot.

I have made my points very clearly.

It is for you to choose the path that you wish to tread. I have no desire to try to alter the way you live your life.

I have resopect for ladies, and treat them as such. NOW WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH THAT?

I would appreciate it if you would not tell me how to run my life. Principles outlined in the Bible , respect

for the fair sex, and follow the laws of The TRNC, sounds a good basis to me.

NOW THAT IS JUST MY VIEW, thats all.

Just food for thought......

While you guys are pulling everyone apart, accusing right minded people of bigotry, and lauding a foul

mouthed so called comediene, not to mention paying £30 to hear him.

The TCs have doubled purchase tax on house purchases for foreigners (not TCs) and increased prices of

Electricity by 25%. NOW WHO VALUES WHAT? Get your acts together!

Just my opinion thats all.

Ian, I think if you see message 25 you will find that the correct e-mail address should end in .co.uk instead of the .com of the original post.

I personally would write to both e-mail addresses:

realentcyprus@hotmail.com

realentcyprus@hotmail.co.uk

If neither of these work, send a mail to me at proger1@biznizguide.com and I will pass on the question to one of the organizers.

Re message 114.

Fancy pride of place on the fire this weekend?

I'm guessing you're one of 'them' people that everyone tries to avoid in restaurants/bars.

Actually, thinking about it, your probably one of them spiteful, old men that everyone tries to avoid. And because of this you no longer visit restaurants or bars because you can feel the hate coming from others?

Like I said, your sort have earned right to be burnt.

Re message 110.

I also heard it has now changed to the 4th, not that this should put us of going of course! Still waiting for confirmation though...

Also, are we still able to book tickets today or has that date change as well?

We're just happy he hasn't pulled out!

Thanks again RealEntCyprus for making the effort to bring these world famous acts to Northern Cyprus!

(wynyardman, don't forget we will all be waiting for you on Saturday night, we'll save your spot on the bonfire, don't worry, you DEFIANTLY will not be missed.)

Mods please look at message 118. Quite a nasty threatening and vindictive message! Again an attempt to shout the loudest and not respect the views of others!! Please remember the Rule book! And JoanneM before you turn on me again please read message 38 on Gordon's Bonfire night thread!

As I have said to others "I am responsible for what I say, I am not responsible for what you understand"

Hi Thescarlets

Paul is indeed correct, we posted the wrong email address.

The correct address is realentcyprus@hotmail.co.uk or contact the Malpas Hotel reception on 0392 650 3000
