Does anyone know what's happening? I heard a rumour that tax is being increased on cigs, and retailers are holding back on stock until the new rate is announced. I am being restricted by only being able to purchase one or two packets at a time. Have spent all morning driving from Bahceli to Girne, stopping at every shop to get my limited quota.

Yes suntanman - its been on for a few days now. The shops say new stocks havent arrived yet and ae being fair to give everyone a quota, some say they have plenty of stock but dont want to sell at old price! Since everyone does wha yot do, I reckon it is the petrol stations trying to increase petrol sales! Anti smokers - bet some you would be screaming if restricted to two pints of beer per pub.

I had heard that the importers were withholding the stocks because the government had demanded tax on existing stocks that had already been imported and tax paid. They did a similar thing with the betting shops and the betting shop owners got together and said, ok if you put up the tax on our shops, we will close a load of them and they did,...now the govt get less money from tax with the increased rate than they got before. And this occured in a matter of weeks. Where do we go from here...............
