Using Skype with 3G dongle

Can anyone tell me if they have used Skype while using a 3G dongle, what is coverage like and does it use a lot of memory.

If you dont use the video then it uses next to nothing.

We use 3G dongle to skype Channel islands and UK , never had a problem.

messages 2,3, and 4, can I ask please how many GB per month you have and rougly how much of that does an average conversation take, depending of course on how long the conversation is I suppose?

Hatti we use a Telsim 3g dongle whist on holiday and never have any probs using Skype when calling the UK.

Here are examples of some typical Skype data usage:

•Skype-to-Skype: 50kbps or around 3MB for one minute of calling

•Calls to landlines or mobile numbers: 6-20 kbps or around 1MB for one minute of calling

•Video calls between two mobile devices: 500kbps

•Video calls between a mobile device and a computer: 600kbps

the first thing on the list, skype to skype using 50kbps/3MB per min would be voice only.



These are only estimates by the way, they give a ball park figure but are subject to variation, video more than voice I would suspect.



Another thing you can do is most smartphones have apps that will show 3g data usage, so you could check your current usage, make your skype call and then check data usage again and see for yourself how much data, up and down, was used for the duration of the skype call.
