Just read that Jimmy Savile has died, two days short of his 85th birthday.

He will probably be remembered as much for his phenomenal charity work as his somewhat bizarre appearance.

RIP

I got to know Jimmy a little about 20 years ago. I lived near Stoke Mandeville Hospital and he used to jog past my house then, after he had caught my Mancunian accent, he would stop sometimes for a brief chat. I have to say he was just as weird in real life as on the tv. But then I guess the jogging got too much for him and suddenly I never saw him again.

But everybody around there knew just how much he had done for the Spinal Injuries Unit and, like me, they admired him hugely fot it.

RIP Jimmy!

Lets hope Jimmy remembered to "clunk click for his final trip" !

I remember that seat belt ad very well, we could do with it shown here in the TRNC

Great guy and a larger than life character, used to jog with him around Scarborough in late 80s when he was visiting his mother, great for banter and those who know Scarborough and know the steps to the front, well I was mid 20s and he used to certainly give me a run for my money running up and down those steps.

For those 'booties' he never forgot the trek he did around Dartmoor and was awarded his Green Beret and he must have been in mid 40s at that time.

RIP JImmy!!
