I see another restaurant has been shut for 3 days for harassing customers. If a waiter stops you and asks you to have a drink or meal - is that harassment? Walking along the harbour I'm not harassed by the first waiter, but by the time I've got to the other end and they have all asked me - I feel pretty harassed !

What harrasses me is when a waiter, having greeted me as a long last friend, and enticed me in the resteraunt. then ignores me and companions for rest of evening, and we have to wait ages to be served.

for a lot of people it is very annoying to take a stroll down the harbour,1 or 2 waiters you accept but then it starts getting on your nerves,it actually stops a lot of people going down there.its illigal for them to do it,but some still do.

I love the harbour at night , for a nice walk looking at the boats the castle , watching the dinners eating , then they jump on you , it really pisses me off . If I wanted a drink or a meal I would come into the place . Please local council enforce the rules on pestering people to eat . Because we hate it

If people didnt go into their establishments on being asked to they would STOP doing it. The power lies with us to stop it.

| The council periodically enforce the rules. best complain and then let them follow through. As to message 5, quite often it is the tourists who go in and so they are not going to stop are they. I find it infuriating when I am out walking with my dog and they invite me to sit down and eat. |I just say I have already eaten at home, but it becomes a bit of a boring record by the time |Ihave run the gauntlet of all of them. The dog gets a lot of attention though, so she is happy! |

To be honest they are not so pressing these days and a polite smile and no thanks is enough, I find. The harbour is not unique with this matter. It happens in all the tourist spots in the world, these guys have a living to make at the end of the day. A smile costs nothing

If a polite "smile and no thankyou" does not stop persistence then try "I eat when I feel hungry not when I am getting earache". It usually leads them to immediately believe that they are talking to a prat who would be a hostile diner in their restaurant. Being a total prat it works for me !

I always say "I've eaten thank you". I know it can be annoying, but businesses across the board are having a bad time at the moment, they just want to keep their jobs thats all.

You should try the Sultanahmet region in Istanbul. We were totally harassed by waiters there asking us to come in and eat. We had already had our evening meal in the hotel and when we told one waiter that we had already eaten, he said to our retreating backs, in perfect English "bloody liars"! I did not want to turn around or acknowledge that he had been heard but I was steaming mad. At least the waiters in the harbour are not so rude. Having said all that, I no longer go for my walk down there, I do not believe it will ever stop. Shame really.

We used to love walking around the Harbour. But like others stopped because of the constant pestering...
