Dear cyprus 44 members my name is derek styler and my PASSION is basket weaving, after two decades of being involved with this GREAT art i am now head of the european basket weaving committee. Now that i reside in the north of cyprus i would love to share my passion and start my very own club here (well its for all passionate weavers) where by we can meet on a weekly basis, the only problem being is we do not have a venue, so i'm hoping that some business or establishment may invite me to use there premises for a TWO hour session once a week. I live in lapta so the west side of kyernia would be best suited (alsancak my suit us best) if someone offers a venue here i believe the club will be called the ABWCC which is the ALSANCAK BASKET WEAVING CONVENTION CLUB. If we can get this up and running we will become part of the world wide network which will include international club meetings, which will give us a chance to show of our handy work and to shine on a global basis.

Regards derek

Sounds very exciting Derek, Good Luck, (plenty of basket cases in TRNC)

I know N.N. was into basket weaving in a big way in the U.K.

He spearheaded the Quarry Bank group in the early 80,s. May be he will see your post and show an interest.

Thankyou kind sir

Lets hope NN puts his name forward, anyone with experience in this field will be a big help. Please be aware that this is an art form that takes many years to master, and we will be willing to train people with no experience, all that is needed is that they are of a creative and patient nature. Please be aware although this is a free club subs are taken to cover the venue rental fee, which i would expect to be very low for two hours.

Yes spider i have read many threads by this hans chap (dutch crusader i believe) but so far i have not been lucky enough to meet the man, he seems to be very intelligent and we share a lot in common, he would be an asset to my club. Please note that we will be able to cater for about twenty members, first come first serve (pun not intended) but of course certain 44 members qualify on merit irrespective.

So congratulations to the following.

dutch crusader

mike lapta

alsancak jack

pollymarples

hildysmith

zerochlor

Well done to the above who meet all the criteria without question.

Could the dutch crusader contact me please to discuss if it would possible to have a joint club night at the santoria (i'm sorry if not correct)

I was hoping for more interest in this native art form. Basket weaving club is a great place to make new friends and create master pieces from many different fibers, in a recent study in geneva it was shown to cure people suffering from stress and anxiety problems, and also giving all those involved an amazing sense of well being and a massive sense of achievement.

Derek - now you're cooking! I've been wishing and hoping for years that someone would take the initiative and start up a basket weaving group.

Problem is, like Simbas, I only visit a few times a year but would be more than willing to join a correspondence course, if one is started up.

I think you've had some brilliant ideas up until now, but I have to say that this one takes the biscuit. Well done Derek

Woodspeckie - yes, I see what you mean, what with my cooking and biscuit references - it's my 'theme of the day' today, food, possibly due in some part to the fact that I have given up smoking.

Have to agree that a baking course would be a great idea. I'm sure if anyone could arrange it, Derek could, and, of course, I could still do it via correspondence course. See, I'm bloody obsessed with food.

I was hoping you would reply but i had no idea how rude you are, is it because we are so alike or is it because you want to be the only ex pat club in alsancak. Well i have news for you my dutch friend being racist will not win you any respect from anyone. Please bare in mind i'm actually czech so i'm not effected by your anti brit drivel. I think we should meet in person so i can educate you on being a gentleman.

Please act like an adult, you offered to show me a good walk in lapta and you said you would walk the first half mile with me, this has been rightly stated by woodspecie. Now i know you have only become insulting since i mentioned starting a club for the benefit of the community, i think we all no the real reason why you are so angry don't we.

Thankyou i'm sure my party will be very interested in your happy hour.

mcstyler, you can also add the jam making and Jerusalem singing to your activities.

Think, with your other 99 identities as members of your club, what fun it could be!

Happy weaving!

Oh for Gods sake, what is going on here, we have DC waiting four days to insult Proger1, who is big enough and ugly enough to stand up for himself, then we have Spider posting links that don't do her any favours, why sink as low as some of the others, does it achieve anything?

If this Mcstyler, whoever he is (or was in a previous life) wants to play silly buggers then let him, but why don't the rest of you pack it in with the insults, the board is getting over run with nasty, pointless posts and that is not what it's supposed to be about. Come on folks, kiss and make up !!!

@ msg 41, spider: One can fight anything in this world except stupidity. Understand why I don't even reply to your silly posts?

P.S. Try to have some interest in Northern Cyprus, the locals and the activities of expats - instead of trying your 'skills' as a 'therapist' on your favourite posters. Hug your Vic and leave us or at least me alone her, please. Thank you.

P.S. You still can't spell my first name (difficult, I agree: four letters!) - so call me DC. But only in your dreams, not in more absolutely worthless posts.
