Residency....Beware if your visa has run out

For those renewing their residency, if your residency visa has run out and even though your paperwork is all with immigration, you cannot leave the TRNC, at least that was my experience today when I tried to cross the border!

THe border guards were as helpful as they could be, but advised me to wait until I have my new visa before trying to cross the border.

My residency expired yesterday and this is the 8th time I have renewed it. A few years ago we were advised to get a letter from immigration to say a new visa had been applied for, last year I was told it wasn't necessary and was able to go across without any problems, I assumed that the entry on the computer to say I had applied was sufficient, obviously not this year!

If you are expecting to have to leave while your paperwork is still with immigration, you need to cross the border at midnight on the last day of you visa and then you will get a 90 visa when coming back!

So if residency runs out on the 5th do you need to cross at midnight on the 4th or midnight on the 5th?

If your residency runs out on the 5th you need to cross over before midnight of the 5th as that is the last day of your visa and then back in after midnight, effectively the 6th, and your visitors visa commences then.

Also how long is it taking for paperwork to be completed in Lefkosa at present?

The number for ringing to ask if it was ready for collection is unavailable.
