Does anybody know if I can pay money, £, into my Credit West a/c using my UK Debit card - has anyone done this? I have tried to set up international payments from my UK bank but they need to call me with a code to proceed with the transaction and they will only call a UK number!

I always draw sterling using my UK bank card and change it to lira at the cash exchange. Even if you have to pay a small charge for using your card, you will still gain at the current rate of exchange. If you have a bank that doesn't charge you, as we do, it is definately the best way to get your cash from the uk.

Yes thanks - I do do that with my Nationwide but I need to transfer my house purchase fees, a substantial amount, and I cannot set this up long distance so was hoping that I could use my debit card for this. Just thought someone might have experience of this to save me going to the bank to find out. Many thanks

I don't think that you will find that this is possible - it isn't even possible to draw money against a UK debit card over a bank counter here. You can use UK cheques here although they do take nearly a month to clear so whether that would be suitable in your case, only you would know.

I very much doubt it, and even if it were possible you would most likely still be limited to your maximum permitted daily withdrawal so it would be no better than an ATM.

Why not find someone with a UK mobile. There are plenty of people here, both tourists and part-time residents, who will have one and then your bank will be calling a UK number? Or get someone in the UK to put a 'call divert' on their phone to route incoming calls to your TRNC number?

Your debit card would be treated the same as a cheque by CW and take weeks to get funds into your account

po in and havea chat with CW but the only way I know of is by bank to bank(swift IBAN) transfer its also the safest

Good Luck

Turk Bankasi now take FIVE weeks to clear cheques. On the credit side though, they only charge just over £2 per cheque for this service, if you have an account with them. Other banks charge up to £10 per cheque.

I send money to Creditwest through RBS online banking.

If unsure ring Deniz at Creditwest Catalkoy on 090 392 824 56 20

You cannot use a card to deposit money in a Bank in TRNC. I tried at Creditwest and Garanti. They gladly accept cah or a cheque, but the cheque as Minertor says takes an age to clear.

Best advice would be to sort out your transactions with your UK Bank and do across the 'wire'.

Thank you for all your advice but not so urgent now since they have raised the tax from 3% to 6%!
