Bet this has happened to loads of people. Our 8-9 year old Arcelick washing machine has just decided it doesn't spin or rinse anymore. Looks like I may need to dig deep for a replacement unless anyone has any real good suggestions on a quick fix. Any suggestions appreciated, Smiffy.

Had it been a civilised make, suggest a new distributor.

Thanks Paddywack - I didn't even know washing machines had a distributer - thought that was just on petrol engines!

In my experience, after such a length of time it is the motor brushes (no, they don't actually look like brushes) that have worn too far. Competent DIY replacement is possible - assuming parts are available.

Thanks for the ideas - is the Arcelik shop open at the moment? I was told it may be shut for Bayram.

Smiffy,if you have had a washing machine here for 9 years then you should count yourself very lucky, especially with the hardness of the water here.Personally I'd bite the bullet and invest in a new one, once they start going wrong they tend to keep going wrong.

Gooligan - I think you may be right, but I am in Uk and I have guest's staying at our place up to their necks in soap suds and smelly pants. If I can't get a real quick fix, then I will have to buy one - any suggestions as to where?

I would think after 9 years it has served you well !! Think the average life is about 5 years. Re message 2, we have only good things to say about Arcelik.

spinning and rinsing are two different actions . some times if a program is stop half way it confused the washing machine try turning off and starting again. it happened to me but in my instruction manual it told me what to do and it worked. take off the top of machine and make sure the belt hasn't broken . also check filter as if it is blocked it will not pump the water out.

Smiffy, I'd ring him first thing, I don't think you'll get much done after tomorrow. If all else fails, there's a good launderette in Alsancak, they wash and iron, and very reasonable too. There must be one somewhere over 'your side',

I've had a line of washing out for two days, and it still isn't completely dry, :(

Thank you all for your suggestions. We are trying to contact repairers and hope that the problem is filter or belt or similar. If not an economic repair, I will be back to ask - "Where is best place to buy new washing machine?" Smiffy

Quick update - Arcelic Repairs didn't turn up as arranged on Friday, so D&E of Catalkoy were called, came straight out on Saturday, diagnosed broken pump and replaced it on the spot for 125tl. Great service, reasonable price, problem solved. Thanks for all suggestions - great to see what a tremendous help a forum like this can be at times - Cheers, Smiffy.
