Blackadder has been mentioned. Fabulous and VVV funny apart from the seriousness of going "over the top" in WWI and then the comedy stops, and it makes you think, and it stops you in your tracks....

Why?

What was the point in all that futile waste of life?

So what is your comedy classic and why do you find it so funny?

Hi Kay

Sorry but for me it has to be AB/FAB,

So funny, it reminds me of my girlfriends in the early day,s when I was the only one with a daughter or child at that point!

She (my daughter) used to come down stairs after a girly night out, and brought them all home for a night cap ??. And tell us you are disgusting/noisey ,and to be quite!!!!, Hence the name SAFFI !!

WHEELS ON FIRE !!!

regards

It's not my favourite by any means but does anyone remember The Dustbin Men?

I used to think it hilarious and as it upset the hell out of Mary Whitehouse (the TV world's repressed femdom) it can't have been all bad...

There just too many classic ones...

Steptoe and Son

Tony Hancock in his several variations on prog name - genious.

Likewise, Ronnie Barker - Open All Hours, Porridge - genious again

Only Fools & Horses

The best have comedy and pathos. How many times in the best are you crying with laughter one minute and then tears of sadness. The one mentioned of Blackadder was probably the best one off of this type. I know we just sat in a stunned silence when the went over the top.

However one of the best progs with a regular dose of both was Steptoe and Son. How many times did 'arold want to kill his dad for ruining his love life, then at the end would sacrifice everything for the "Dirty Old Man"!!!!

Blackadder, you may have guessed that’s a favourite of mine!

Father Ted

League of Gentleman- an acquired taste I think

Coupling wasn’t too bad for a BBC2 comedy

Phoenix Nights- before Paddy McGuiness got a bit annoying

It's a tradition in many a Scot's house to watch Rikki Fulton at New Year's Eve..

He's dead now but his memory lives on in characters like I. M. Jolly and Supercop... wonderful stuff...

I've got the VHS tapes of Scotch & Wry his best works... even when you know what's coming it's still very, very funny...

PS spotted a few "definately"'s slipping into the thread.... Definitely not please..

I grew up loving the Ealing comdy films with people like Alaistair Sim, Wilfred Hyde-White and best of all Will Hay, Graham Moffat and Moore Marriot... I used to be in stitches when Moore Marriot squeaked out "Mr Porter!" as Harbottle in the eponymous film.

Open All Hours, Blackadder, The Young Ones, Auf Wiedersein (the original one), The Royle Family, Red Dwarf, The League of Gentlemen, Phoenix Nights, Gavin & Stacey, Green Wing, The Office.

We're watching a series at the moment called the Inbetweeners which is about 4 teenage schoolboys. Sounds odd but it is absolutely hilarious.

Bernard Manning Brilliant. Rising Damp, Fawlty Towers, Only fools and horses,

Rab Nesbitt but can't remember the name of the show with various sketches all in broad Glaswegian accents! Favourite comedian of all Billy Connelly.

Yes Minister and Yes prime Minister both classic comedy. And the box set is cheap at the moment. If you want a classic in the making watch 'Outnumbered' on BBC2. The joys of parenthood. The children are brilliant.

The Naked Gun series curled me up. Scenes such as an outline crime scene body marked out on the water and Detective Leslie Nielson shouting to the crowd 'Move along nothing to see' as a fireworks factory explodes in the background...
