Sepp Blatter and his cronies should be gratefull to all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in protecting our homelands. had it not been for these heros there would be no FIFA...

I would like to see a team defy the ban. Only this year that the BBC World broadcasters are wearing poppies when I wrote last year asking why they did not wear them, they answered it was a world wide broadcast - what the f--- has that got to do with it. If it was going world wide meant that most of the Commonwealth countries tunned in and they would know what it was all about.

My response on this is two fold:

1. The decision was based on the fact that it leaves the door open for any country to display a 'logo' - this could lead to nations abusing this to make a political point (anti-zionist slogan by Iran for example). Even the Royal British Legion have said that they support this stance.

2. Not really sure I would want a bunch of football prima donnas, most of whom fail to live up to the basic moral standards that befit their status and their pay packets (even the England captain is under police investigation for alleged racist comments as I type) to act as standard bearers for the Royal British Legion and for this appeal. If each of them chuck a small % of their annual earnings (say 50K) in a collection tin then I might think differently.

I agree Rita - defy the Ban and wear the Poppy with pride. Be proud to be British!

Why all this outcry about poppies when we are still needlessly sending men to their deaths at the whim of politicians.

Of course it had to be the Mail !!!!
