Rugby Union League in North Cyprus A new Rugby Union League has been formed in Turkey, which the ‘Pumas’ (North Cyprus Team) are now a part of. A new website has been created, http://www.cypruspumas.com/ where you can read all about the club, latest news & fixtures. The first Match which will be held at the Alsancak stadium on Saturday 24th November 2007 against the ‘Ottomans’ Sponsorship Currently the Pumas are in need of urgent sponsorship to assist in the purchasing of safety equipment & training kit. Unfortunately as advertised recently in the Cyprus Today newspaper the Club House was broken into and the entire Match strip was stolen. We are urgently looking for sponsors to donate towards the purchase of the new playing strip for the start of this years new league cup. The current costings are working out at approximately £1,300 to supply a full squad. If only a few local businesses donated a small amount this target is easily achievable. We will be advertising all our sponsors on our website, on all our advertising posters & campaigns, on our T -shirts and all designated sales points throughout North Cyprus (Supermarkets, Offices, Building Suppliers, Local restaurants, Pubs). On Match days leaflets & promotional material will be handed out to all visiting supporters advertising our sponsors. More importantly every game of the new Rugby league is being televised, this could be some very important advertising. Our overall aim is to make the club self-funding as much as possible. We will shortly be ordering a number of T-shirts advertising the Puma’s, our website and most importantly our new sponsors. The first sponsorship money to arrive after the Match kits are purchased will go to the ordering of these T-shirts. Imagine your company name & logo being on T-shirts all over North Cyprus. The T-shirts will be sold in designated Pubs, Shops and offices all over the Kyrenia & Lefkosa areas. We already have volunteers set up to market the T-shirts free of charge, which means every penny then gets driven back into the club so we can purchase valuable equipment needed for training. Please support the Pumas. We have lots of new players this year and have a good chance of winning the new league. Come along on match days and give us your support. Many thanks

Sorry for the confusion. It is Rugby Union. What has been formed is a new league / group of teams in Turkey which we are now a part of. We are also part of the new Euro / Asia cup plus other tournaments. It really is a first for North Cyprus to be a part of something like this. Everyone is training very hard & extremely excited for the challenge ahead. All support will be greatly appreciated cheers Bryn

Dodger, have you looked on our website recently? All photos have been uploaded now for a few days. The show block is all finished & looks excellent, we are very pleased with the end result. We were on local television last night which was filmed on the opening day, papers & magazine coverage this week. cheers Bryn

Bryn, Does the club have a junior section? My son plays U16 at the moment but would be interested in at least training when we are over. Regards MC

Hi Mc, we do not have a junior section at the moment but it is something we hope to change in the future when more people get involved with the club. Please come along to the training sessions anyway when you are over. The more new faces & support the better. regards Bryn

Training is Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons at the Alsancak stadium. The squad is currently about 30 strong which is great as we manage to get a practice game in at the end of training sessions on Saturdays. Bryn http://www.cypruspumas.com
