Anyone know the best place for buying tinned dog food, as the cheapest I can find is 3.65tl for a large can.

In the south side it doesn't work out that much cheaper, may be only 30 kurus less so not worth the hassle.

Tinned dog food is the worst crap anyone can feed a dog. Either give dry complete or cook for your dog.

They will love you for it.

Wouldn't feed tinned dog food to my doggie. Actually works out less expensive to buy a ready cooked chicken that comes with rice or make some pasta and serve with that, and probably a whole lot better for doggie.

There's always different offers on tinned food In the supermarkets finding supreme and erdener the best, we never spend more than 2.75 for a big tin and usually feed that with friskies complete and cooked liver rice and gravy so altho some of you disagree with tinned meat I cam assure you our dogs are fed extremely well

I hope no-one give their dogs chicken all the time as our vet insists it is bad for them, a little now and again is ok. I feed ours livers, or hearts, or other offal and they love it.

Message 7: We were told the same by three different vets here after ear infections in the dogs would not heal were asked if they ate chicken, which of course they were, and were told that that was why the dogs had the ear problems and since stopping feeding them on chicken (you have to check the tins also because some chicken does creep in) they have been fine.

Maybe your dogs just have a chicken allergy?

Mine are fed on a mix of different meats, veg, pasta or rice along side their complete dry food, home cooked food is about a balanced diet and not feeding your dog crap. The only thing mine are not good with is too much pork.

I started our feeding plan when my dog started to have fits. Her fits have stopped now and she is fine.

A ready cooked chicken would cost a fortune to feed 2 dogs, when they cost 12tl each, and the chickens are so small. I used to buy the chicken necks when they were a good price and cook them up with pasta, but they went through the roof in price.

Tarry even complete dog food is only normally 30% protein so you don't need to give too much meat. Then the carbs come from grain and veg. My dogs love tinned tuna, eggs ,cheese and all meat.

A tin of tuna between two dogs with their dry complete goes down fine. If you look at the price of tinned tuna compared to tinned dog food, then look at the health benefits.

Tinned dog food is made up mainly of water and then old crap.

My friend who breeds dogs in the south fed his Royal Canines, cost him a fortune. Saw how well a dog he gave me was doing on my way of feeding and has now changed all of his to the same. They are now in much better condition.

Its not about quantity of food but quality. Don't feed to much tuna as they say it is high in zinc, but a couple of times a week is ok.

recurring ear infections are commonly yeast infections caused by allergies (usually food related). The most common cause is the wheat / grain component of dried food, (pasta of course is a wheat product on its own). The idea that chicken is bad for dogs was an idea siezed upon by purina - one of the largest pet food manufacturers in the world (wonder why)?

I only feed raw. Meat, bones and organs and do so very cheaply. Dogs are carnivores and do not need or indeed digest adequately, fruit, veg, grains etc.

our vet many years ago told us that bread and flour products were some of the worst things that you could give your dog.

I think a lot of ear problems are related to breed of dog. Spaniels or anything with floppy ears, then Shar Pei and Pugs with small ears, all suffer worse than other dogs.

I don't disagree with Bo regarding raw meat diet, but my girls just look at raw meat then look at me as if to say mum, what is that? Then there is the fly issue.

Wheat / gluten also causes lots of skin problems.

What worries me is that here in the TRNC so many dogs are on special diets recommended by the vets. I do feel this is all about money and not about the dog actually needing a special diet in most cases.

anyone interested in what the big dog food companies get up to read this : Food pets die for, by Ann.N. Martin. Great book and very interesting, even Asil Nadir has had his fingers in the dog food pie at one time.

Chicken gizzards with rice is good. Best tinned food down south at Lidlls or at SuperMegaStore pate style not loose and runny.
