The above link is for those people who would like to sign this petition on line. This address will also appear in The Star tomorrow. Please let me know if there are any problems.

I would like to make this a 'sticky'. Can someone please tell me how?

Not sure who you intend to present this petition too?

I cannot see how the TRNC administration could possibly effect the poisoning. Unless, of course it is a government instigated campaign!!

Msg 3 - as I have said before, I intend to take this petition to the TRNC Government, whom I understand already have some kind of law in place banning the sale of poisons. However, this is obviously not being implemented strongly enough and anything I can do to reinforce this, I feel is worthwhile. I may fail, but at least it will keep the whose issue high profile. Please try to have a more positive approach to this distressing issue.

msg 4. You also find you may be given a one way ticket out of the TRNC for bringing the Government into disrepute.

Remember you are a guest in this country.

For the record I do not agree with the poisoning of animals.

I am NOT bringing the TRNC Government into disrepute, I am asking them to have stricter controls on the use of poisons as it is only a matter of time before a child dies. KAR tried a similar things a few years ago, no harm in keeping the issue alive.

Thank you Spider. Up to this evening there are 169 signatures on the petition which I think is wonderful. But still more needed.

I have also put a link on my Facebook Page and this has been shared with others now, so great.

▶ Anyone here have any idea how many people in the UK (AND Holland I hasten to state, and Germany and France etc etc) leave their 'beloved pet' in a kennel before going on a holiday to Spain or wherever - never to return to pick up their 'beloved pet'..? Interesting figures.

We had poison thrown into our garden a number of years back now, killing two dogs and a cat, and our grandchildren were in the garden at the time, and yes we knew who did it, but we got nowhere with our complaining. After 34 years on the island we still remain visitors!!

We have broken through the 200 mark now. There is a link in an ariticle in The Star today which gave the wrong website address, but don't worry we have created a link to the correct site so you can still add your signatures. Please encourage all your friends to sign.

Thanks to those of you that have already signed.

sorry that I never got the correct address on time - paper was already set up. But a note will go innbext week. And some people are doing wonderful things winging e mails to friends urging them to sign, so I reckon the 1000 should be reached. But why not aim higher?

"Sharing" the post on Facebook with as many as possible will raise interest (and signatures) - also with the local population:

@ msg 29, Izzet: Well done, Izzet! This shouldn't be just an expat subject but a Cypriot Turkish item also. Come on, "locals", join the petition and share your feelings on Facebook. Animals shouldn't be poisoned - whatever the problem.

Thanks, I have had many signatures from around the World, total this afternoon is 657. And I shall still be taking around my 'paper' petition for those people who do not have access to the Internet.

Thanks Lilli, have put the petition on Change.org but have yet to finalise where it will appear. If you have a look at my Facebook page I have linked to some similar sites in the South and have some signatures from there. You can email me if you have any other thoughts. Sylvia

Poisoning is not the answer. Someone has then got to remove a carcass before it becomes infested. This presents a health hazzard. Instead of poisoning these animals, without doubt the best solution would be to offer them to the biomedical institutions. A possible and tidier solution would be to use them for the testing and research facilities. Before the self ritious brigade kicks off please remember that there are always differing views and others may not necessarily agree with your petition. There are many misconceptions about animals used in biomedical research and testing which continue to be circulated online. This is in part due to the lack of information offered by the scientific community to date. One valid and strong argument is that Animals and humans are both mammals, which means biologically they share the same basic types of organs – heart, lungs, liver, kidneys etc, and that work in the same way, controlled via the bloodstream and nervous system.

Msg 36 - maybe you should say all this to the pet owners who have watched their dogs die in the most horrific way. I suspect they would not agree with you!

Well done to all who have signed, 796 signatures on our website plus many more on Care2.

Is there a law in TRNC against poisoning cats and dogs?

If so, it has to be a crime both for citizens, expats and the Belediyesi to do that.

In Republic of Cyprus - I know for sure - such a law exists.

There is legislation in place but not strongly enforced. Widespread poisoning also takes place in the South even though, once again, it is illegal. I have placed a link on Facebook to a site in RoC which shows just how bad the situation is there as well. Our aim is to approach the Government with as many signatures as possible to show how strong feelings are and to ask them to improve the legislation.
