Well, that was one of the best meals we have had on this island,also a pretty mean brandy sour or two. Thank you Liz and Guido ( now that might not be spelled right! think brandy sour) also it was nice to see James again he certainly knows how to look after the diners.



Well done to you all and we will see you for Sunday lunch.

I dont see people mentioning any other restaurants they try .

Went to a little place next door to Illeli supermarket (just before starling at Alsancak) The Grape Garden its called, had a super meal, all fresh cooked local food, friendly service and a good price! Also went to Guido's, enjoyed that too, and the Dragon chinese restaurant at the Rocks Hotel, all enjoyable in their own ways. If the foods good then its money well spent.

I did make a comment to the owner which is very unlike me but I had to as we had seen such rave reviews. We wont be going again. I enjoy good food but dont exprct cold food after waiting for ages. Thanks Liz W. I guess lot of restaurants get different reviews depending on their service consistency, and personal tastes. I find the less pretentious restaurants often serve the best food, and usually not expensive either.

After being shown to our table we waited at least 20 minutes before we were asked if we wanted a drink (by the waitress who was sitting at the table next to us having her lunch and explained that she was family helping out). Having waited some considerable time for a Sunday Roast (not a la carte) it finally arrived cold. One of the forks on the table was dirty so had to ask for a clean one. When asked if everything was ok I had to be honest and say no. I told the waitress that the meal was cold so she said she would tell the chef. He came down to see us and I told him why we were unhappy. He said I should have said something and he would have put our meals in the microwave as it was difficult to keep everything warm!!! Not what we consider the correct answer. We had heard rave reviews and expected a good meal not a below average meal The restaurant wasnt full. The whole experience was below par and there was no sign of the swede or the parsnips so often mentioned !!

Could I please clear something up, I put a posting on asking for a break from the constant reference to Guido's, it was deleted. I have never said a bad word about your restaurant, I have never bad mouthed you or your staff, in fact I have posted before what a lovely place it is, nicely decorated, good food, blah, blah, blah.

I just get fed up of seeing it on the board all of the time and think maybe it would help if we had a little less publicity, too much of a good thing and all that.

hi mags, i have read your comments with interest and can only apologise for any shortcomings that you experienced. If I recall you arrived without a booking and had to have a table outside and you arrived later than most of the diners, usually we know in advance the amount of diners we expect and cater accordingly so by the time you arrived a lot of the food was gone, i know you asked for different items from the sunday lunch menu which was just not possible as all the ovens are taken up with the lunch.I do apologise that i didnt see you sit down outside as i was very busy inside and my daughter in law was eating her lunch as you quite rightly say as they were awaiting thier lift to the airport to go back to uk at 3.30pm she saw the situation and alerted me to it, i am really sorry you felt you waited 40 minutes I would however dispute that long, she was not a waitress just concerned. Apart from the very obvious exceptions in this thread, have the rest of you finished having a "knock" at this hardworking Lady and her business? Quite honestly, some of the comments posted have been absolutely disgraceful and uncalled for. It's so easy to hide behind your PC with "BB names" tapping out deroagory comments isn't it? Lilli, I know that this is your business and you want it to be successful but in any business you have to take criticism as well as praise.



I responded on here because everyone seemed to sing its praises. We did actually book and assumed that because there was only a choice of 2 things on a set menu that it wasnt going to be difficult to cater for. It was cold and thats a fact. I would not want a roast meal microwaved.



To be honest I dont think replying to everyone who is not satisfied is very constructive. This was our opinion, we did bring it to your attention at the time and we wont be coming again. Our decision. There are hundreds of restaurants to choose from.

Lilli - perhaps you should cast your memory back a little further. We HAD BOOKED a table for 1300hrs (which took 3 attempts as you were never open at the oft stated times) and did not ask for anything other than the Sunday menu, unless you are referring to my request for no gravy on the pork I ordered? Nobody mentioned 40 minutes here, but you are probably right, we probably did wait 40 mins (after the 20 mins to be offered a drink) until our meals arrived.



I have read this board for months now but I feel I have to defend my friend and myself - self praise is no recommendation Lilli ( and there's still no mention of the much feted swede!!)



If it wasn't for the fact you do so much self-advertising you probably wouldn't get so much grief...



Anyway, that's my bit said, I'm sure some people will jump in here but as far as I'm concerned it's all done and dusted. It was it was... and what it was, was a disappointment after previous reviews on here.

ph britvic thank you i do try my best to be all things to all people but some people here who didnt have a voice in the uk suddendly find they can shout without being seen. snakes knows all the requirements for living here so im sure all documentation will be taken care of. i get so fed up with it and his comments are quite valid this is a village, i could say a lot but vendettas start like that and i would rather rise above it, most done by restaurat or ex restaurant owners we know who they are so it doesnt come as a surprise. There are a lot of hidden agendas here npw, constructice critisism i will take and act on it all my customers can tell me to my face not hide behind a screen . Today, 21-12-08,

Had the best sunday lunch in 14 years visting this iland. (lived for 11 months).

The food the best ,staff the best ..hosts fantastic !!!!!!!!..

Big portions ( me from n-east of england + london ), I llke .
